Just saw the lame excuse for a Fantastic Four movie

Downloaded it off of kazaa. All I can say is, wish I had never found it. Glad Stan Lee never intended to release it, or Marvel would be the laughing joke of the movie industry. The movie is very laughable, albeit unintentional I feel.
For instance:

-Dr. Doom never had his voice dubbed, he actually shouted his lines through the iron mask.

-The Thing's expression always looked like he was constipated.

-The cheesy quips never stopped. (Mrs. Storm, Johnny and Susan's Mother, actually looks at them before their space accident and proclaims: "The Fantastic Four!"

Overall...:yack:

it's a movie based on a comic book - what did you expect? Realism? :)

No, but a little effort on anything (really, anything)isn't too much too ask is it? It didn't have to be realistic, it just didn't look like they cared. (Of course the fact that they really didn't probably had something to do with it.)

devilshalo 03-04-03 06:13 PM

The movie was done by Roger Corman, King of the B Movies and who was about to lose the rights to make the film so he rushed one out - what did you expect? Realism? :)

GuessWho 03-04-03 06:17 PM

C'mon, the dude is made of rock - what did you expect? Realism?

Cusm 03-04-03 06:32 PM

How should a guy in an iron mask talk? With a mic and remote speaker? And he is a rock, what exact emotion are you looking for? :p
That is realism.

I didn't really want anything except confrimation that it really is that bad. It really is, so mission accomplished.

LivingINClip 03-04-03 06:58 PM

I just bought the DVD off Ebay. I figure it is terrible, but I collect superhero DVD's, including all the terrible Marvel ones....

I went blind for nearly a month after I watched this drek. My fave "effect" is the long blue arm on a pole they apparently used to simulate Mr. Fantastic's "stretching."

This isn't the same one that Peyton "Bring It On" Reed is directing with a Chris Columbus story is it?

Get Me Coffee 03-05-03 10:46 AM

Any one have pics?

Actually they cared quite a bit. The cast and crew had no idea that it was never intended for release. They did as much as they could with the extremely low budget (for a special effects film) and newbie crew. It was a labor of love for most of them. I actually liked the Thing costume and if they had "finished" it, Dr Doom would have been dubbed. This is not to say that it is any good (it isn't), but they definitely didn't just throw it together without a thought. Talent costs and they just couldn't afford it (intentionally on Corman's behalf).

fumanstan 03-05-03 11:38 AM

Hmm... The Thing looks pretty decent.

Get Me Coffee 03-05-03 12:20 PM

Hell Thing will be CGI the next time around....it's a shame....the rubber suit looks pretty good

edytwinky 03-05-03 01:09 PM

I watched it based on the fact because it's from a comic book. Oh well, I lost a couple hours of my life

lesterlong 03-05-03 10:02 PM

You people who say the Thing looks good have to see the movie. The suit is made of rubber and the fact that the movie uses a bunch of rock sound effects for him makes it even more hokey. This was the worst movie I have ever seen. Take away the hideous costumes, effects, and makeup you still have a horrible script, with bad acting.

fumanstan 03-05-03 10:22 PM

Well... at least he looks alright standing still =P

True, true. :)

Whenever I think of this "movie", I think of the interview with the cast and crew in Film Threat magazine where the guy who played the Thing - Carl Something, I think - made the interviewer real uncomfortable by trying to "witness" to him in the Christian fashion:
"So who's your favorite super-hero?"
"I think there's only one super-hero, and his name's Jesus Christ."
"....."

monkeyboy 03-06-03 01:16 AM

This was written by the guy that wrote all the 'Black Scorpion' tv shows for Corman. He's a total wanker. He had a special pair of pants made up during the filming that had the foursome airbrushed onto the legs. He was pretty proud of it.

It sounds hilarious.

I feel bad for anyone involved in that project.

Zodo 03-06-03 12:21 PM
