Leonardo cast as Alexander the Great

http://www.comingsoon.net/movies/a/a...erthegreat.php

Any comment on this? I would have prefred that they cast maybe Ewan McGregor to play Alexander, I not sure if DiCaprio has the physical look to play him. And why in god name are they casting Nicole Kidman as Alexander's mother Olympia? Doesn't Hollywood hire older actress anymore?

Perhaps back in the days, women married at a much younger age and have kids around 13 or so.... So NK's real age is perhaps fitting historically speaking (pure educated guess here).

Of course, the real reason is that we all want to watch a pretty actress on screen

This is old news. Oliver Stone has been planning an Alexander movie for some time as well--even Martin Scorsese was once rumored to have one in the pipelines with Leo.

I know many of you are disappointed but I liked Leo in both Catch Me If You Can and Gangs Of NY, so him as Alexander The Great could work.

I agree Leo is miscast (I think he was cast right in Catch Me If You Can, wrong in Gangs of New York).

I think it's a miscast director too, but that sort of thing is more difficult to predict.

Why could they not have gotten at least someone who has an accent, regardless of whether its Greek! I would rather have seen someone like Vincent Cassel plays this part. This will be another movie in the vein of Gladiator.

I can see Leo as Alexander.

He has the look that can be played as a younger Alexander and older one.

Hmmm. I had to check up on this because I saw Colin Farrell had this role according to imdb.com. Sure enough, he is still listed as the star of the film.

Doesn't IMDB wait until an actor is locked into a role before they add it to their filmography?

Actually there are 2 Alexander the Great movies. One with Colin Farrell and another with Leo DiCaprio. This will be yet another case of Armageddon & Deep Impact, A Bug's Life & Antz, etc, etc.

I'm obviously in the minority, but I think DiCaprio is a great choice. Now, Colin Farrell, that's another story.

Would Nicole Kidman go down as the most pale, redheaded Macedonian or Greek female in history then?
