Is it even possible to make a mainstream comedy without toilet humor?

I was wondering if there is any way to make a mainstream comedy anymore that would not rely at one point on either toilet humor or sexual innuendos for jokes. I have yet to see one do such.

My big fat greek wedding is a good one that doesn't have any toilet humor.

Austin Powers Goldmember - Oh wait never mind, I think they squeezed one or two double entendre's in there. ;)

No.

Yes. Even last year, The Royal Tenenbaums made about 50 million dollars. Obviously it's not an all out comedy, but many people think it's hilarious.

It's possible, unless you're the Farrelly Brothers. :)

I think Office Space, which is one of the relativley most liked comedies of the past decade, had little to no toilet humor.

Probably not, but Rush Hour 1+2 weren't too bad.

Actually, there weren't any toilet jokes in "Old School," though it certainly wasn't high comedy.

Personally, I don't find a poop joke to be any more childish or offensive than some ridiculous "comic misunderstanding."

true, but there were sex jokes...which is on par with the toilet humour... so I wouldn't count it as the kind of movie dr.dvd is asking about.

Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas was very funny with not much toilet humor.

No, but there was plenty of vomiting in toilets, though.

I am talking about studio comedies, not indies like Tenenbaums or Greek Wedding.

Heck, sexual innuendo as comedy has been around as long as they have made movies... Look at some of the Marx Bros. films, or Abbott & Costello...

So is it possible to have mainstream comedy without either an innuendo or joke relating to flatulence or something like it.

garmonbozia 03-01-03 04:53 PM

not sure.

I too find toilet humor to be nauseatingly dull and it is an immediate turn off for me........

but sexual innuendo??

come on!!! that's been the main basis of comedy for centuries!!

Tennenbaums was released by disney and greek wedding, even though an indy, it made much more money than any other indy.
