Blake Edwards to Direct '10' Remake

By Cathy Dunkley

HOLLYWOOD (Variety) - Veteran filmmaker Blake Edwards will direct "10 Again," a remake of his 1979 hit "10" that starred Dudley Moore, Bo Derek and Julie Andrews.

Producer Mark Damon's MDP Worldwide will produce, fully finance and handle worldwide sales rights on the film, which is to begin casting soon. Shooting is expected to begin in August in Britain and at various tropical island locations.

The original film, written and directed by Edwards, starred Moore as a middle-aged songwriter risking his relationship with Andrews to chase after a mysterious younger woman played by Derek, whose cornrow hairdo and "perfect 10" body made her an overnight sensation.

"In the 25 years since I made the original, '10' has become synonymous with perfection around the world," Edwards said. "It is one of my favorite films, and though the look will be new, the message is still the same. It's a classic 'grass is always greener' tale --sexy and fun -- that will resonate in today's marketplace."

Added Damon, chairman and CEO of MDP Worldwide: "Blake Edwards is a master filmmaker, a consummate storyteller and genius of the comedy genre. We are delighted to be collaborating with him on '10 Again' and confident that this timeless tale will find a new audience 25 years later."

Edwards' other feature credits include "Victor/Victoria," "Breakfast at Tiffany's" and the Pink Panther series.

A hilarious movie, sounds more like a new movie with the same theme than actually trying to remake the same 10.

I don't mind when filmmakers remake their own movies. DeMille and Hitchcock did it.

But who could possibly replace Dudley? He was so right for that part.
