Gollum was real. Peter Jackson found him in New Zealand two years ago and trained him for the part.

The fact that you're asking this question is a good thing.

Your use of 'embiggened' completely cracked me up! Add that to the list of funny words.

embiggened
that is a perfectly crumulent word!

He is a real actor. He has a genetic disorder that enlarged his eyes and discolored his skin. He was also an extra in Die Hard III and he started his action career on General Hospital. He was also a roadie for Metallica.

Steve Buscemi took method acting to the extreme for this role. He lost over eighty pounds and ate nothing but raw fish for a year in order to prepare for the part.

This is the guy. I saw a special about the "Making of..." He did the voice and provieded all body and facial movements of Gollum. They edited him out and put Gollum in overtop of him, keeping all the facial expressions and body movements.

There was one part where he was saying that it's no different than wearing prostetics (the elf's ears).

Of course they're real! I'm looking at a map of Middle-Earth right now and it clearly has Hobbiton on it!

HeftyP said he "saw" a special. I assume he means on television, because I saw a similar special, probably the same one. What does believing the internet have to do with it?

Oh stop it! You know he's CG! He doesn't look anywhere near photoreal. No CGI character does.
