Robin Hood - Men in tights

Am I the only one who likes this film? One of the few comedies i can watch over and over again. Did a search through these forums and nothing came up.

JM1 02-19-03 11:16 AM

Nothing came up, eh? I guess that answers your question.

I remember watching this on TV once, and thought it was one of the worst things I have ever seen. I remember when it got to the point where Robin says to his men "Friends, Romans, Countrymen - lend me your ears", I said to myself if they throw ears at him, I am switching off.

They did - so I did.

Further proof, I'm afraid, that Mel Brooks heyday was in the late 60's/early 70's.

You want to see a good Mel Brooks movie? Check out the recently released The Producers - now that's classic stuff.

Samuel 02-19-03 11:17 AM

This is a great comedy that will hopefully be on DVD soon. The Godfather scene is hilarious.

I am also awaiting Dracula: Dead and Loving It.

To each their own i guess.

I actually saw producers on Broadway... Not a big fan of musicals, but I liked this one.

PixyJunket 02-19-03 11:46 AM

Men in Tights is funny.. but agreed that is low on the chain of mel Brooks..

Pants 02-19-03 11:55 AM

Caught Men in Tights on Comedy central recently...hadn't seen it in a long time. The "Patriot" Arrow joke is so dated (it's a pun off the infamous Patriot Missle of the Gulf War [that's the last Gulf War for you young'uns]) I thought I would die. The movie is total garbage. 10 year olds would like it...if the jokes weren't so dated.

jdpatri 02-19-03 12:33 PM

Agreed. Low on the Mel Brooks totem pole but still Men In Tights has a few great moments. I'd buy it.

The Dave Chappelle scene with Little John on the river bank is pretty classic.

"I'm on the East bank.... I'm on the West bank.... It's not that critical."

On a side note, I couldn't finish Dracula: Dead and Loving It. It was just that bad, and I've been known to enjoy my share of terrible comedies.

After all, I do own Men At Work.

fumanstan 02-19-03 12:50 PM

I absolutely love Men In Tights, i'd buy it on DVD.

CuriousGeorge 02-19-03 12:51 PM

We're men!....We're men in tights!....We wander around the forest looking for fights!

Definitely a classic. Don't forget the home alone kid, and A-choo, and Blinken, too much to mention. I appreciate most forms of comedy, but the ONLY comedy I had to turn off was ZOOLANDER. I just couldnt stand the characters after 20 minutes into the movie. It was just too painful, I swear.

spyzdope 02-19-03 02:19 PM

It's available in other regions, if you've got a region free player and want it bad. Check out the international forum for more info.

Men in Black is great. While I haven't seen his Dracula, I have loved everything of Mel Brooks' that I've seen.

History of the World Part 1? How many people have never seen that gem?

Oh well. :-)

 Men in Black sucked. Men in Tights on the other hand was hilarious. It's definitely on the buy list when it finally gets released.

jetflair 02-19-03 08:47 PM

I REALLY want this movie on DVD! Fingers crossed for a release soon.

THORN 02-19-03 11:42 PM

men in tights was a good mel brooks film .... but there are much better. men in tights is maybe a c in the mel brooks library

spaceballs, the producers, blazing saddles, and young frankenstien were much better and the best work of of mels is the much over-looked TO BE OR NOT TO BE

jfoobar 02-19-03 11:48 PM

RHMIT was rarely funny.

UAIOE 02-20-03 03:41 AM

"did you just say Abe Lincoln?"

"No i said HEY BLINKEN!"

Some good quotes but i like Spaceballs more.

darkflounder 02-20-03 05:52 AM

There was only one semi-funny joke in the entire movie and they showed that joke in the trailer. My friends and I were reciting along with the jokes, the first time we saw the movie!

The Producers, The Twelve Chairs, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Silent Movie, High Anxiety, History of The World Part I, and Spaceballs. That's Mel Brooks finest years. Anything since then has almost been guaranteed to blow.

joshd2012 02-20-03 11:23 AM

I loved this film and I am eagerly awaiting its release onto DVD.

Kal-El 02-20-03 12:25 PM

I love this flick. Best performance by Cary Elwes...after Princess Bride of course.

Bust 03-20-03 06:54 AM

Count me a huge fan of "Men In Tights".

"What kind of name is 'Latrine'?"

"We changed it. It used to be 'Shithouse'!"

darkflounder 03-20-03 07:59 AM

Men in Tights sucked. How many people didn't see the Blazing Saddles joke coming at the end of the movie.

The Producers, The Twelve Chairs, Blazing Saddles, Young Frankenstein, Silent Movie, High Anxiety, History of The World Part I, and Spaceballs (the end of the beginning, the beginning of the end), those are the ones worth watching. I can still watch Blazing Saddles and Young Frankenstein and giggle hysterically through the whole movie.

I did see The Producers on Broadway and it gives me hope that someday, Mel Brooks can find his talent again and make a movie on par with his classics.

Maybe it's time for History of The World Part II.

tanman 03-20-03 09:40 AM

I thought that MIT was hilarious. I especially love the part when blinken is the lookout. I think this belongs in the guilty pleasures thread.

lordzeppelin 03-22-03 01:33 AM

Look...this movie is worth it for the "the night is young and you're so beautiful" scene.

B-Flat...

thecrazydude 03-22-03 01:42 AM

I too have always thought this movie was very funny.

milo bloom 03-22-03 10:14 AM

I love this flick and the wife does too. Anyword on a DVD?
