Hopefully he gets off his high horse soon though, the fans are restless.

Hopefully he doesn't. His Star Wars fanbase is the most pathetic in movie history.

I think that title now and forever belongs to Trek fans.
Now if we go back right before TPM, then I'd agree with you. Trek fans were worse. But not since the prequels and the DVD announcements. From where I stand, considering how terrible I thought the last 3 Trek films were, and how all but 2 are average to just plain bad, I would say they have more reason to complain than anyone.

Hey, I love 4 of the 5 movies so far. I like TPM despite the big 3 problems I had with it. Some of TPM is downright jawdropping and amazing though. So I have to include myself in the Star Wars group. But over the last 3 years Star Wars fans as a group have bolted past Star Trek fans as the most rabid, anal, nitpicky, whiny, selfish, obssessive fans on the planet. Did I get all of them in there. I'm not that big of a Trek fan as I've only liked 2 of the films, so maybe I don't know the whole story. But they aren't anywhere near as bad as what I've seen out of the Star Wars fans the last 3 years. I'm a member of 3-4 message boards and I frequent 2-3 others. You rarely ever hear a peep out of Trek fans on those message boards.

A set of Star Trek cards. Turns out it wasnt a sci-fi convention but some sort of TRek convention that occurs a lot in Pasadena. Man I was pissed. I do amit a lot of Wars fans are whiny, pathetic, over obsessive jerks but they are the reason I dont whine about the movies or yet to be released DVDS. Its just not worth the argument.

LOTR fanboys tend to be different. We'll know in 5-10 years if they become as ridiculous and Star Wars and Trek fans. However, as the days go by they're heading more and more in that direction. I could go off on LOTR fans but in order to spare a flame war I won't.

I dont think we have to wait 5 to 10 years its already here. Day by day people are deciding that the LOTR movies are the best thing since sliced bread, and more and more I get annoyed by people (excuse me, grown men) squeeling like little girls whenever Legolas snapped his head a certain direction or mounted his horse, Its just getting stupid. Will I see the third film? Yes, and I havent read the books (OMG someone kill me!!) so Im going into the third film not knowing what to expect. But you are right only time will tell about the LOTR.

3 pages and no one has said:
"Di$ney $uck$ too"
(not really, but...)

Yes, and I havent read the books
So I am looking forward to not knowing what happens. I just hope it's more like TTT and less like FOTR.

Now, I'm not a big fan of LOTR, but I doubt that it will generate the kind of fandom (or geekiness) that Star Wars and Star Trek generate. I'm not saying that the fan base is not as big. I think the fan base IS just as big and growing at an even faster rate. But, I hope that the LOTR fan base will take note of SW and ST and not change into an embarrassing spectacle. Given that SW and ST are by their nature very light-hearted, I think that kind of feeds into the costumes and the merchandising. But, I'd like to think of LOTR as a somewhat "serious" story.
Now, the Matrix, on the other hand, could become huge this summer. You think we might see more people wearing leather overcoats?
By the way, I am a fan of SW AND ST:TNG & the original cast movies.

Did he read through half of the entire book, or just halfway through Fellowship?
As for the comparison between LOTR and Star Wars, let's not get into that. The big difference is the books were written first, and then were made into films. Star Wars was never a book and came from the mind of some obscure filmmaker at the time. There are many similarities and there are many differences.
But, I'd like to think of LOTR as a somewhat "serious" story.

I am a fan of movies that entertain me.
SW, ST, LoTR and Matrix all entertain in one way or another, some better than others.
I will own (DVD) all the SW(I do have the original SW VHS and I will not sell them), Matix and LoTR movies (half of the ST movies). And I own about a third of ST:TOS and 3 sets of ST:NG.
Live long and Prosper movies that entertain, and different movies entertain people in different ways.

And following third...LOTR fans. I thought TRek fans and Star Wars fans were the only ones who dressed up for movies, but I was proven wrong when I saw the Two Towers. One guy even brought a lightsaber and my friends and I yelled at him "WRONG MOVIE JACKASS!" it was funny

Seriosuly.. I did bring a lightsaber as a joke, and one guy did say something along the lines of "Wring movie!" and I was like "Wait.. this isn't Episode III?". That was my follow-up joke to the Midnight showing of FOTR I went to, the guy I was sitting next to was like "Holy Jesus!! Are you as excited as I am?" and I tole him "Well I just came here to check out the Blade 2 trailer." and the dude looked like he was going to cry, it was sooo funny.

Personally, I cannot believe that this constant Luca$ bashing always ignores the main thing for which George DESERVES to be bashed.
How the hell do you not get Admiral Ackbar a sit-com?? Or at least a late night talk show??
