First off, let me say that this was a fantastic ending.
Car pulls up to a stoplight. There is a police station on the corner. Gere's character is debating whether or not to turn himself in. The camera pans back and all that are in the frame are the car, the police station and the stop light that is red.
Stoplight turns green and the movie ends.
I do not think Gere chose to turn himself in. The green light indicates that they are free to go wherever they want and I think that's exactly what they did.

Exactly what i thought when i saw the movie. The green light pretty clearly indicates his decision.

No, they stopped at the red light then when it turned green they didn't move n it turned red again then it ends which only indicates that he have decided to turn himself in n she knew that. What they said before that was just what they wanted to do n seems like logical but they both knew thats not going to happen they saying out loud what they wish but for their son sake they know they can't

No, it didn't end right after it turned green. It turned green n they stayed still till it turned red again then it ends which clearly indicates that hes made up his mind to turn himself in. That hug right after the speech was a goodbye hug, long, passionate n sad. If they decided to run, they would've had a quick hug, looked like their in a hurry n when the light turned green would've stepped on the gas n got outta there not have a long sad hug full of tears n stayed still till the light turned red again
