What do you think Forrest Gump said during the Peace Rally?

Okay, I couldn't find a topic like this so I hope it is not discussed elsewhere.

I just watched the movie again today and I have always wondered what Forrest Gump said when he was accidentally picked to say something in front of the peace rally in DC.

My guess is that he mentioned losing a very valuable friend. Obviously, he didn't understand (or possibly even care) about why we were in Vietnam. I thought it would have been an interesting perspective on war.

What do you guys think?

Remember at the end of his speech (that no one but the leader heard), the leader said "Right on, brother" (or something to that effect).

I watched this today too! Perhaps he talked about the different kinds of rain? :hscratch:

Jackskeleton 02-13-03 11:11 PM

talked about bubba and the shrimp buisness that forrest and him were suppose to start up.

thats all he's got to say about that...

What was in Marsellus's briefcase.

He talked about how we should be good to each other, and not be like the guy who confided to him about his secret role in the plan to shoot that guy in the car in Dallas in 1963.

I saw a making of before the film was released, and they had a clip of Gump talking that wasn't muted.

It was nothing special, just Gump saying it's sad that people died and how he didn't think people should have to kill each other.

"Sometimes when people go to Vietnam, they go home to their mommas without any legs. Sometimes they don't go home at all. That's a bad thing. That's all I have to say about that."

- according to Hanks.

I remember seeing a behind the scenes feature, and it showed that scene briefly but you could hear his voice from the camera that shot the documentary.......he said something along the lines of "In Vietnam you can meet a friend, but you can also lose a friend"

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Didn't want to start a new Forrest Gump thread, but my daughter (after visiting a Bubba Gump restaurant) wanted to watch the movie so we opened my Blu Ray and watched it this weekend.
While there are many things that bothered me about the movie after not seeing it for so long, one thing really stuck out as a problem : Forrest becomes a folk legend for his three year stint jogging back and forth across America, but none of the reporters who try to interview him and identify him as "a gardener from Greenbow, AL" put together that he's also the founder of Bubba Gump shrimp or the table tennis champion who went to China, or the All-American starting Running Back or the Congressional Medal of Honor recipient -- though all those things made him notable and would be easier to find out than his occupation of gardener. It just didn't make any sense and it really bothered me for some odd reason.

"Don't be so down in the dumps, y'all. After all, things aren't as bad as they seem. Like the fella says, in Italy for 30 years under the Borgias they had warfare, terror, murder, and bloodshed, but they produced Michelangelo, Leonardo da Vinci, and the Ren-ay-sance. In Switzerland they had brotherly love - they had 500 years of democracy and peace, and what did that produce? The cuckoo clock. And lots of cheese."

In my head it's always been
I've seen a lot of changing, in the way you feel about me, and in the way I feel about you. In here, there were two guys killing each other, but I guess that's better than twenty million. I guess what I'm trying to say, is that if I can change, and you can change, everybody can change!

"If you can get arrested for hunting or fishing without a lice...nse, but not for entering and remaining in the country illegally — you might live in a nation that was founded by geniuses but is run by idiots.
What a country!
How about we give God a reason to continue blessing America!"

It was surprisingly profane, They had to CGI out his hand gestures to avoid an NC-17.

I think he told the hippies that they're socialists and fascists. And, to be happy and maintain a functional society, you must only think of yourself.

It is, but even God loses His patience at times. Ever hear of Noah's Ark, the plagues of Egypt, or Sodom and Gomorrah? God takes no delight whatsoever in the destruction of the wicked, but some choose to go their own way rather than love Him. In the end, they've chosen their own fate.

Yeah, I heard about that, too.

Little known fact, that gentleman was played by Cary Elwes.

Actually, the flag-wearing protester was played by Richard D'Alessandro.

Little known fact about Richard D'Alessandro: he was Marlon Brando's assistant.

Really? Looks like he made it through the drug-induced Warhol years unscathed, then!
