Alien Redrum 02-12-03 05:16 PM

Pretty good list.

Did you add the "?" to some of them? or was it there?

Pants 02-12-03 05:21 PM

94) Vertigo (1958) - Grace Kelly changes her appearance at the end
Uhhhh, what? Who?

80) City Lights (1931) - She takes pity on a beggar
79) Grand Illusion (1938) - "Duty is duty."
78) Gladiator (2000) - My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius...
Yeah, that scene from Gladiator was definately better than those scenes from City Lights and Grand Illusion.
MY GOD-eek-

For a lot of these they get the movie right, but the wrong moment. The kiss at the end is not the best moment in Breakfast at Tiffanies. The "running down the freeway" scene isn't the best scene in Body Snatchers. Beast's Redemption in Cocteu's Beaty and the Beast is not the best scene, in fact it's the worst.

I could go on. There are also a far disproportionate amount of American films on there, and WHAT THE HELL is Gangs Of New York doin' in there?

I am REALLY surprised to see the bathtub scene from Les Diaboliks above the shower scene from Psycho...and I'm also surprised to see Persona so high...WOW

Kal-El 02-12-03 05:23 PM

I dunno...I'd have put "Frankly My Dear..." a little bit higher...somewhere in the Top Ten even.

Charlie Goose 02-12-03 05:46 PM

Um...excuse me...doesn't anyone remember Ringo Starr falling into dinosaur crap in Caveman? What kind of list is this?!?

http://charliegoose.homestead.com/files/goose.jpg Honk!

Robert 02-12-03 06:12 PM

57) Apocalypse Now (1979) - Willard emerges from jungle water
The Ride of the Valkyries scene is better.

99) Saving Private Ryan (1998) - "Earn this."
Oh come on! That's like the cheesiest part of the whole damned movie. How about Mellish getting knifed?

95) Pulp Fiction (1994) - The insulin shot.
I would say more the Royal with Cheese dialogue.

78) Gladiator (2000) - My name is Maximus Decimus Meridius...
Best damned moment in the whole movie.

76) North by Northwest (1959) - The cliffhanger scene
Bull! Cornfield scene.

74) The Third Man (1949) - Ferris-Wheel Car Scene
Appearance of Harry Lime

36) Lawrence of Arabia (1962) - Match scene
That, or Omar Sharif's entrance.

1) The Godfather Part II (1974) - "I know it was you, Fredo."
Hmm... I would say Michael "forgiving" Fredo at their mother's funeral. That scene brought me to tears.

95) Pulp Fiction (1994) - The insulin shot.

Err...that was adrenalin, not insulin.

Numanoid 02-13-03 12:05 AM

Also: 73) Blue Velvet (1986) - Karaoke

Technically, that was lip-synching, not Karaoke. ;)

And nothing from any Star Trek movie? Come on. Surely Kirk's "Khhhaaannn!!!" scene is one of the greatest moments in cinema.

Jaymole 02-13-03 07:49 AM

What a joke that list is. Did anyone do any research before they compiled it? It's loaded with errors and some of the scenes they pick made me scratch my head.

Annie Hall - Woody Allen pulls in guy to defend Fellini

It was Marshall McLuhan!!

jdpatri 02-13-03 08:13 AM

Casablanca - Ilsa comes back to bar

Hmmm.... a good scene but in a movie full of terrific scenes why this one? Why not the ending on the runway?

"I'm saying it because it's true. Inside of us, we both know you belong with Victor. You're part of his work, the thing that keeps him going. If that plane leaves the ground and you're not with him, you'll regret it. Maybe not today. Maybe not tomorrow, but soon and for the rest of your life."

Dr. DVD 02-13-03 08:30 AM

Pacino and DeNiro in Heat. SWEET!!!

95) Pulp Fiction (1994) - The insulin shot.
94) Vertigo (1958) - Grace Kelly changes her appearance at the end

Grace Kelly wasn't in Vertigo, it's an adrenaline shot in Pulp Fiction, and the Line in Sunset Blvd. is "All right, Mr. DeMille. I'm ready for my close-up." You would think a list like this would get Cecil B. DeMille's name right, but you'd think a list like this would include something from DeMille's filmography. How's about the parting of the Red Sea in the Ten Commandments?

55) Black Narcissus (1947) - Ghost attacks nun or something?

23) The Searchers (1956) - Door closes on main guy
The Searchers -- starring John Wayne as Main Guy. With Jeffrey Hunter as Other Guy and Natalie Wood as That Chick.

Classic!

sherm42 02-13-03 10:34 AM

Where is The Shawshank Redemption - Andy's escape?

Surely that was a much better moment than Saving Ryan's Privates "Earn This" line.

Giles 02-13-03 10:41 AM

what no, "No wire hangers" from Mommie Dearest

cupcake jesus 02-13-03 10:58 AM

what about?

Any Given Sunday "Inches" speech
Dog Day Afternoon "ATTICA!"
The Shawshank Redemption Andy in the Rain
Rain Man Charlie teaches Raymond how to dance
Batman "Who are you?" "I'm Batman"
Se7en "What's in the box?!?"
Alien Chest-busting
Requiem for a Dream Harry calls Marion
The Candidate McKay self-mocking in the car, and breaking up at the TV studio
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington "Well, I'm not licked!"
Unforgiven William Munny faces Little Bill
Back to the Future George decks Biff
Igby Goes Down Igby breaks down at the door
Woodstock "Breakfast in Bed"
Terminator 2 "Hasta la Vista, Baby" *BAM*
The Bicycle Thief The rain storm
The Royal Tenenbaums Ritchie shaves
Raiders of the Lost Ark Indy shoots a swordsman
Dazed and Confused "Tuesday's Gone"
Chasing Amy "I love you...and not in a friendly way"
Magnolia "Wise Up"
Vanilla Sky Times Square

and on, and on, and on...

but i do think it's a pretty good list.

Pants 02-13-03 11:05 AM

Alien Chest-busting
That IS on the list.

The line I always remember from Batman is when the Joker asks "Where does he get all those marvelous toys?"

Giles 02-13-03 11:52 AM

In terms of "Jaws" the emergence of
Spoiler:
the severed head
is THE scene from the movie. I would have loved to seen this movie in a packed theatre.
