The Two Towers over Far From Heaven and About Schmidt
John C. Reilly over Dennis Quaid and Alfred Molina Talk to Her and Y Tu Mama Tambien not nominated for Best Foreign Film (not eligible, maybe?) Eminem nomination These are the biggest surprises for me. |

The Pianist owns all the other movies on the nominee list. And The Hours and Chicago? I can't think of more middling nominations since . . . A Beautiful Mind and Moulin Rouge. It looks like 25th Hour got bonged, proving yet again Oscar®'s got no balls.

yeah so I am a little pissed off that Confessions of a Dangerous Mind was SHUT OUT...but oh well, it seems as if good preformances (Chuck Rockwell) get toyed around where big blockbusters like Spider-Man & Star Wars continue to get nominated.
anyways, the biggest surpise is Christopher Walken and why the hell was Daniel Day-Lewis in the Best Actor, shouldent he be in the Supporting Actor category |
Biggest surprise for me is Bowling for Columbine. Usually the academy snubs documentaries that have had even a modicum of success.
|
Seems like Adaptation got jacked (no best pic or director nods)
By the way, is Nic Cage being nominated for his role as Charlie or Donald? :-) |
so no golom for best supporting actor then?

glad to see that spirited away got nominated and the category actually made after all. i will be disappointed if it doesn't win. that is about the only thing that i care about since i haven't seen many of this year's movies.

Re: One thing though.
Originally posted by RayChuang I think AMPAS voters will more likely give the important Oscars next year to The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King as a cumulative award for Peter Jackson's landmark movies. :) That means late next February (the Oscar ceremonies will be moved up a month starting in 2004) Peter Jackson will have to polish up his acceptance speech skills. As for this year, I'll say Chicago wins Best Picture due to the fact it's the least controversial of the Miramax releases that was nominated. -smile- I do find it interesting that the Two Towers basically got half the nominations of Fellowship. But I think you're right about Chicago. I'd be very surprised if it didn't win at this point. |
Disappointing to see that Paul Thomas Anderson and Punch-Drunk Love got shutout.
PTA and the film are too good to not get any recognition. |
no screenplay nod for ABOUT SCHMIDT is robbery
GANGS was gorgeous to look at but shouldn't have 10 nods just give Marty the lifetime achievement award already but FAR FROM HEAVEN not getting a Best Picture nomination is really pathetic why don't they just pencil in LOTR 3 for Best Pic next year as well. |

I'm sorry, I just don't get Chicago.
It wasn't that good, and for god's sake, can't anyone notice that Renee Zellwegger can't even tap her feet in rhythm? She was horrid. And how does Two Towers not get nominated for makeup, especially when there's only two other nominations? |

I'm ready for PTA to back to basics and write and sweeping 160-minute drama. This was a side project in my opinion because he was so dissappointed with Magnolia's box office take. |

She was horrid. Huh!? Did we see the same movie?? I loathe musicals as a rule, but "Chicago" was great. As was Zellwegger. AND Zeta-Jones. AND Latiffa. Etc. Etc. I'm bummed that Hugh Grant didn't get nominated for "About a Boy". But knew the screenplay would for sure. |
I was kind of hoping that movies Far From Heaven, Adaptation, and About Schmidt would get nominated instead of The Hours and The Pianist, though good their just not the greatest films of the year IMHO.
Nice to see Road to Perdition get some recognition along Catch Me If You Can and Minority Report getting a few. But the best story is GANGS OF NEW YORK getting 10 nominations!! |
I can't remember the last time the Oscars were so easy to handicap:
Best Picture - Chicago is a LOCK Actor - Probably Jack Nicholson, only DDL has a shot Actress - Nicole Kidman is a LOCK, they wanted to give it to her last year SActor - Paul Newman is a LOCK. This is probably their last chance to salute him. Cooper might deserve it, but he won't win because Streep is going to SActress - Meryl Streep is a LOCK Director - Scorsese is a LOCK |
Anyone else notice that of the five films nominated for Best Picture, John C. Reilly is in three of them? Go John!!!
|
I don't see Streep walking away with supporting actress so easily. Julianne Moore's had an outstanding year - and I agree that Kidman's going to get the votes for Best Actress - so voters are going to pencil Julianne in for Supporting to honor both of her performances. I'm not saying she's going to win but I think out of all the categories, Best Supporting Actress is the most uncertain. Votes will also go to Latifah and Catherine... it's anybody's statue. The only person I'm discounting at this point is Kathy Bates.

Wow.....this is the most unsurprising Oscar nomination in years. Nothing even remotely was unexpected. Which does not mean it's a bad thing - I'm glad that Richard Gere was snubbed, and Meryl streep didn't get Best Actress for what was only a supporting act (The Hours).

Originally posted by dstrauss And how does Two Towers not get nominated for makeup, especially when there's only two other nominations? I think the visual effects category could be interesting, seeing as it pits LOTR versus Star Wars. I figure SW will get shut out again, a la the Matrix for Phantom Menace, and I really don't think that Spiderman will have a chance. |

Lilo & Stitch!! :D
