I'm surprised no one has mentioned The Sixth Sense yet. When the trailer came out I thought it was going to be another "Bruce Willis helps a kid" movie. Other movies that surprised me immensely were Ice Age, Princess Mononoke, Fight Club, and Go.

I'll add Jeepers Creepers and The Sixth Sense to my list:
I remember seeing the trailer for Jeepers Creepers and thinking it was garbage. When I first heard the name I thought to myself that it must be a comedy. When I saw it on DVD, I liked it.
With The Sixth Sense, I remember thinking that it would be another crappy horror movie. After some buzz, I decided to see it. Enjoyed it and was surprised that it wasn't really a horror movie at all.

Grudgingly watched, and ended up loving The Emporer's New Groove.

Now, we need the thread for movies I thought would suck, and did; or, the movies I was all psyched up for, and was terribly let down.

When I went to see A Beautiful Mind I didn't know much about it and thought it would suck, I wanted to see Ali but after ABM was over it instantly became one of my all-time favorites.

Dances With Wolves..thaught would be a lame period piece..I was surprised how much I enjoyed it even though it was 3 hrs long...looking forward to the SE whenever it comes out!!
About A Boy..Charming little film consider Hugh Grant is really annyoing most of the time but I liked him in this one...
Dead Poets Society..Didn't think I would enjoy it as much as I did. The screenplay IS one of the best ever written IMO
