I had forgotten how great the Godzilla trailer was. By the time the movie came out I had seen that trailer dozens of times but they could of played it just before the movie and that would of been fine with me as well. I know the movie wasn't received well but since I never cared for the older Godzilla movies much I really enjoyed the screwed up new version.

I'm revising my list...

1. Forrest Gump, still #1
2. Saving Private Ryan re-release trailer
3. Daredevil teaser(the one with Coolio in it)
4. ID4
5. Any Given Sunday
6. Clear and Present Danger
7. X-Men 2 teaser - The one with Wolverine in a rage
8. TROY teaser
9. Sky Captain & The World of Tomorrow - The very first trailer with the theme from Stargate
10. Tombstone

The ID4 Super Bowl commercial is one of my favorites.

Digigeek06 04-23-06 07:59 AM

Like some previous above i have to go with the "TEASER" trailer for T2

I"LL BE BACK!

I'm suprised no one has mentioned "This is Spinal Tap."

I remember seeing that one in the theater and laughing hysterically when they started to show the cheese rolling.

Other favorites:

Dead Men Don't Wear Plaid (Steve Martin and the Butt-o-meter)
It's Alive (never saw the film, but the trailer used to give me chills enough)
The Player
The Comedian

I agree it's an awesome trailer (and it was actually the girl that is the lifeguard not the guy) but from what I've heard the movie isn't very good. I found the trailer online once if I can find it again I'll post the URL.

Comedian. Hands down.

BellsOfWar 04-24-06 01:32 AM

i personally thought the remake of the texans chainsaw massacre was very good of only for the sound effects in DTS.

I really thought the "Narnia" trailer was excellent. I enjoyed it more than the movie - and it convinced me to go to a movie I wasn't planning on seeing, which was also impressive.

"...a Robot Renegade Cop!"

I don't remember the name of the film, sorry, but it was released in themid to late 70's that was a documentary on whether or not there life after death "Beyond Death" or something, needless to say the trailer was one of the spookiest I saw as a kid - it gave me nightmares.

mike7162 04-24-06 10:14 PM

I always loved the trailer from "Strange Days", even though the movie didn't live up to it.

Deadpool 04-25-06 12:51 AM

The Matrix
Bring It On

iggystar 04-25-06 08:52 AM

Anyone mention The Blair Witch Project? The trailer was most effective, the movie, not so much (made me ill).

raven56706 04-25-06 08:55 AM

Sorry guys but the all time best trailer was Pearl Harbor... with the theme from Thin Red line..... that was the greatest

james2025a 04-25-06 11:25 AM

My favourites have to be T2 (the production line Arnold....total classic). The idea of a trailer being made that has no footage at all from the movie and that stands on its own adding to the mythology of the movie is truly inspired. Hats off to Cameron.

Also the Fight Club trailers that asked people in the audience to turn off there cell phones, fades to black...and then comes back with a nice little piece of Project Mayhem knowledge from either Jack or Tyler. Brilliant trailers for a brilliant movie.

I liked the trailer for Face/Off where the camera is panning around Travolta and then after it moves through darkness we see his face has changed to Nic Cages. Fantastic.

Another was seeing the trailer for Independence Day. A classic example of the trailer being awesome and the movie not living up to expectations.

I also love the trailer for the De Niro version of Cape Fear. Really got me hyped for the movie when i saw it.

I also like the trailers for Con Air, The Avengers (i had such hopes for this film after seeing the trailer), SW:Episode I, The Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy (The one explaining what a movie trailer is by the guide), and The Matrix.

ItsGreekToMe 04-27-06 07:56 AM

I would say that the best trailer ever is still the theatrical trailer for Terry Gilliam's 12 Monkeys.

It's a trailer that does everything right. It builds excitement and really gives nothing away - just hints at things. Is it about time travel? A plague? The end of the world? Madness? Yes. And as soon as it says "a Terry Gilliam film", you know you're in for a hell of a ride.

or as in the case of 'The Brothers Grimm'; a migrane. ;)
