Woohoo! Starship Troopers 2

By my understanding, direct-to-video... directed by Phil Tippet But it's low budget I have no idea on who they are casting [or if they are casting at all]. So maybe it's gonna go the way of the Roughneck's series and be fully animated? I'll get more details...

Oh no. Wanna bet it will have NONE of the satire of the first movie, instead focusing on gore, SFX and the kind of gung-ho mentality (recent example: "The Core") Verhoeven's film so aptly criticised?

I don't want to pass judgment too soon, but this just sounds terrible. Nevertheless, I'm always glad to hear Phil Tippett is still working.

This sounds horible. Tyler's right. the film will be totally lacking in satire

Damn, I was hopingf for a full-blown theatrical release for a sequel. Well, this can't be any worse than The Arrival II...

I'd like to see a remake that actually shows what Heinlein intended, instead of Verhoeven's little Fascist twists...

OK, so would you rather have this or Tremors 4?

You're kidding, right? It was Heinlein who was fascist. Verhoeven is strictly anti-fascist (he grew up in occupied Holland, no less). It was his intention to present despicable things in an overtly positive light. That's why it's called satire.

I'm confused, are you trying to tell me that your friend "came out" after seeing Casper Van Dien in this movie? I guess that shower scene was a little too steamy

Want the scary?

It's only budgeted for around $6 million. A lot of stock footage VFX from the original will be used.

What a waste of money! The first was one incredibly superficial, a hella lot of fun, incorporated awesome CGI, and a great score by Poledouris to boot. Why bother with a lousy sequel? Why don't they just put more in the budget for the AvP movie instead?

I wasn't saying that Verhoeven is a Facsist, but rather that he twisted Heinlein's words into anti-war propoganda.
Heinlein was probably the most anti-fascist person you could think of, and he realized that war is sometimes necessary to protect your freedoms. Verhoeven is very anti-war. He tried to make everything that Heinlein had written to be Fascist, and his message was "war is fascism."
I don't feel that America was fascist for fighting in WWI or WWII, nor do I feel that it is facism to fight an alien race bent on exterminating all humans.

From what I understand (I'm no expert on the matter), Heinlein was a fascist. The society that he envisioned in Starship Troopers was depicted as utopian until the alien insects came along and screwed everything up for the humans. And the society he depicted was definitely fascist. Verhoeven added the satire...
