Isn't this topic a little unfair to Classicman2?

The Third Man (dir. Carol Reed) with Joseph Cotten and Orson Welles.

garmonbozia 02-02-03 09:49 AM

since i was born in 1976, there are just way too many to name, but for some reason, today, Picnic at Hanging Rock was the first one that popped into my head, and that was made in 1975.

theneobez 02-02-03 10:44 AM

Uh, Stars Wars Trilogy and Vertigo.

WiccanPagan 02-02-03 10:57 AM

Godfather 1 and 2, Clockwork Orange, Dr. Strangelove and Taxi Driver

ChefWinduAZ 02-02-03 11:34 AM

Seven Samurai, Godfather, and Godfather II.

Inverse 02-02-03 11:44 AM

Just one? Well, Lawrence of Arabia came out the year before I was born ....

RevLiver 02-02-03 12:12 PM

The Third Man
Carnival of Souls
Vertigo
Rear Window
Rope
Touch of Evil
The Godfather
The Godfather Part II
Dr. Strangelove
A Clockwork Orange
The French Connection
Inherit the Wind

Those stand out among many others from before 1973.

Goat3001 02-02-03 02:26 PM

I'm going to have to go with Fight Club on this one. ;)

Rypro 525 02-02-03 02:56 PM

paratize 02-02-03 03:15 PM

joltaddict 02-02-03 03:22 PM

Night Of The Living Dead.

jdpatri 02-02-03 03:35 PM

...huh?

movies were made before I was born??

...so confused....

:D

greatjedi 02-02-03 03:59 PM

There are too many to list, but the first one I thought of was Jaws. It came out just about a month before I was born.

dizmack 02-02-03 08:43 PM

I was born in 1975 so that leaves a lot of open territory. I'll say The Bridge on the River Kwai

I know you're joking, but sadly enough it seems as if a lot of people around here genuinely have that attitude...

Let's see, I was born in '63, so I'm gonna have to go with The Maltese Falcon, but I'm also quite fond of Seven Samurai, She Wore a Yellow Ribbon, and Bicycle Thieves, just to name three more.

...I know... sometimes I can't resist an easy parody. :D

Let's see... pre-1978...

Casablanca
Touch of Evil
Vertigo
Notorious
The Philadelphia Story
Harvey
The Gold Rush
To Catch a Thief
Roman Holidy
Sunset Boulevard
The Harder They Fall
Planet of the Vampires
Dead Reckoning

....and I'm just looking at the DVD's on the shelf next to me...

RichC2 02-02-03 10:36 PM

The Wicker Man (1973)

Not that I'm exactly cultured on pre-1980s cinema, but that one stands out.

PixyJunket 02-02-03 10:38 PM

Godfather 1 & 2..

dgc 02-02-03 11:03 PM

1963

The kid in me wants to say King Kong vs. Godzilla. It's still one of my guilty pleasures.

Perhaps the original King Kong or Mighty Joe Young.

GoldenJCJ 02-02-03 11:16 PM

Jaws was made five years before I was born. It's definately in my top 5 of all time.

harpo787 02-02-03 11:33 PM

The first thing to pop into my mind is "anything by the Marx brothers." Being born in mid 1930s....kinda hard to pick...

Actually, no being born in 1972, there's not a whole lot that I've seen before my birth..or rather, that were made before my birth. My favorite movie that I recall before my birth would be the walls of the womb.

I just did a blind purchase recently of the Akira Kurosawa box set from Criterion....so I'm hoping to add these movies to my list of favorite movies made before I arrived on this planet...I mean before I was "born".

DGibFen 02-03-03 12:03 PM

Hmm...

Blazing Saddles
Citizen Kane
Dr. Strangelove
It's A Wonderful Life
Mr Smith Goes to Washington
Monty Python and The Holy Grail (Life of Brian is not bad, either)
Rear Window
Snow White + Seven Dwarfs (One of the few disney animated titles I will ever purchase)
Vertigo (One of the best movies ever made - I cannot believe that most reviews of that era thought this film was bad!)
Alien
Ben-Hur
Casablanca

I'm sure there are others but I'm just looking at my DVD collection right now...
