Ang Lee

since the trailer of the Hulk has just come out this director has been much in discussion. so let's talk about his style and his other movies in this thread.

btw, i tried searching for another Ang Lee thread, but it seems the search engine won't search for words three letters long or shorter. have you tried searching John Woo? Impossible. This search engine is none Hong Kong (or in Ang's case, Taiwan) compatible. :p

One of my favorite current directors. Quite diversified in his film's. Everthing from Eat Drink Man Woman, to Ride With the Devil, to Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, to Sense and Sensibility, to The Hulk. In all of them there's a real sense of humanity and fine character development (we'll see about the Hulk). I've never seen an Ang Lee film that I didn't enjoy.

You should watch a 1996 Hong Kong film called The Hero of Swallow. The wedding procession scene in CTHD is practically a shot for shot imitation of a similar scene in HOS. A couple of other bits were cut and pasted as well, with varying degrees of brazenness, including the treetop fight.

My favorite is still The Ice Storm.

Overstock has/had Ice Storm for a reasonable sub-$9 price. I really enjoy Eat Drink Man Woman, and have yet to see Ride With the Devil.

Eat Drink Man Woman --- 10/10 :)

Yes, Eat Drink Man Woman is my favorite Ang Lee film and it was the inspiration for Tortilla Soup.

Well Ice Storm was good, Crouching Tiger sucked, and the Hulk looks fake. So....

I enjoy his comedy, Wedding Banquet. It's lighter than his other movies but still very entertaining. Too bad it's not out on DVD yet. Anyone know when they will release it on DVD?
