OMG - that list could go on forever - llterally, thousands and thousands of books have been turned into movies -
...think of all the Charles Dickens books
...think of all the Robert Heinlein books
...think of all the best-selling novels
...think of all - oh well, you get the idea!

P.S. Death Of A Salesman was NOT based on a book - it was based on a play.

What about movies that are directly adapted from the novel (Lord of The Rings) as opposed to movies that are very loosely derived from the novel (Apocalypse Now).

One of the first ones I thought of isn't listed in any of the links posted above:

Gone to Texas by Forrest Carter is the basis for The Outlaw Josey Wales. Carter also wrote The Education of Little Tree, which was also made into a film fairly recently.

What was the original book / short story ??
IMDB only gives Luc Besson writing credit, and doesn't mention anyone else.

All the Cricton books:

Jurassic Park
Jurassic Park: The Lost World
Congo
Rising Sun
Disclosure
The Andromedra Strain
Sphere

John Grisham:
The Client
The Firm
Pelican Brief

Stephen King:
Pet cemetary
the shining
The Green Mile
Hearts of Atlantis
Carrie
Dreamcatcher
Children of the Corn
Salem's Lot
(his list goes on and on I just got tired of listing)

The Cider House Rules

(kind of) The Hurricane

101 Dalmations
Little Mermaid
Jungle Book
Sword in the Stone

The Lottery

Apollo 13

Taken

Road to Perdition (graphic novel)
Angela's Ashes

This is all that I could think of in 5 minutes that I had the patients to list.

Seriously this list could go on forever.
It would be shorter to list movies that are not based on previous material.
