Have you seen the film or are you just considering buying it because of what the writer went through?

After all, Salo is a loose adaptation of THE 120 DAYS OF SODOM, which can be compared to some of todays S/M litterature that can be found today in porn stores. I agree with Bus, and pick that film any day.

ugh, Quills? I thought Quills was a sorry excuse for a movie about De Sade. It was too compromised and too cherry-coated. It works nicely as a cautionary tale of the evils of censorship, but it's not really about De Sade in any real way. He is reduced to an archetypal character so that there is a protagonist for the story. Of course, this is just my opinion. I do think it was a well made film, and had it not been supposedly about De Sade, I would have loved it. So I probably only like it a little, and being disappointed in it, I have never bought it on dvd. I honestly think that Salo more honestly captures the spirit of De Sade, however repulsive some people find it to be.

For what? You can buy a multi-region player and the region 2 release of Salo for less than $100.

Quills stinks. I don't know what's happened to Phillip Kaufman, but he really lost it. He used to be great. The film has one theme: Censorship is bad, and in a free society we must protect even the most vile self expression at the risk of having our right to free expression compromised. Well how f**king banal! That's only been done like 100,000 times. What's more, it shouldn't take 2 1/2 hours to do it. Kate Winslet is terrible, and The People vs. Larry Flint delivers the same message but is infinately more interesting and more fun
