It SHOULD be an interesting film although I'm not sure what the Vatican will have to say about it since Gibson belongs to a tradionalist Catholic cult that criticizes the Pope and wants Catholicism to return to it's origins pre-Vatican II.
But if an atheist (Pasolini) can direct one of the most authentic and beloved stories of Christ (The Gospel According to St. Matthew) then maybe Gibson has a good chance of making something truly interesting.
