The Spy Who Shagged Me tells movie audiences erroneous information

That's right! While I think Mike Myers is one of the most entertaining and hilarious individuals on the planet, he needs to brush up on his Music 101. And I blame Myers for this inaccuracy in his film because he is one of the film's writers. I partly blame Jay Roach, the producers, and the best boy (why not), but Myers most of all.

The part where he goes back in time to 1969, he's at the swing party with "American Woman" by The Guess Who playing on the radio. "American Woman" didn't come out until 1970 - an entire year later!

Does inaccuracies in music times bother anybody else, or is it just my analities?!

Buttmunker....you're anal.

If it was a serious film, or a historical piece, yeah I think they should do a little more research...but its Austin Powers. Getting bent out of shape (and to call out someone as being to blame) is, well, insane.

It's Austin Powers. Anybody looking to get their history from those movies probably shoudl reconsider.

I'm like the Robert Reed of musical accuracy. Austin Powers may be comedy (and it is), but 1969 had a lot of music to offer - why take a song that wasn't even out yet? Or, why not have Austin Powers go back to 1970 if they want to use "American Woman" that badly?!

I don't know. Just seems lazy and irresponsible to me. And, you know something - kids in school will actually fight over this. One kid will actually know the truth, and another will defend this movie, and they'll duke it out. Somebody's going to get hurt, and its all Mike Myers fault!

Of course, I'm still annoyed by the whole "Elizabeth Hurley's a fembot??" nonsense in AP2; so was she a fembot all along despite her being the daughter of his old partner in AP1 or was the real Hurley replaced by a fembot somewhere along the way? Yeesh. Even though they're goofy movies that little "huh??" still sticks in my craw.

The whole series has so many plot holes I lost count. ---but it doesn't really bother me. For example --- shouldn't his father be at least 100 years old if Austin was supposedly around 28 in 1967 when he was frozen. Or was his father a time travel way back then also since he looks like he's only in his late 60's. It would get one so confused if you think about it too hard.

Remember that part in AP: The Spy Who Shagged Me just before Austin was going back to 1969, when Basil said " I suggest you don't worry about such things and just enjoy yourself...( looking at the audience) and that goes for the rest of you too".

Speaking of the inaccuracies of time, shouldn't this have been posted like 2 years ago, when this movie was actually current?

Damn this Movie plot hole. And to think I felt the fact that they went back in time would be in accurate to begin with. These movies have so many plot holes you could call it swiss cheese.

If this weren't already out on DVD, I'd have cancelled my pre-order!

Well, this isn't exactly a huge shock. And, actually, when compared to some of the other gaping plotholes in the series, it's rather minor.

", I'm still annoyed by the whole "Elizabeth Hurley's a fembot??" nonsense in AP2"

Yeah, I feel the same way too. I'm not being anal about consistencies, its just the feeling associated with her and Austin Power in the first movie was ruined by the second movie. I mean Spy Who Shagged Me had comedy and a bit of sentiment (when he realized he needed to catch up with times), I liked it.

And what's my biggest plothole annoyance with the film? The fact that when Dr. Evil travels back to 1969 and is being seen in a rocket all over the world, one of the people spotting him is a grown up Woody Harrelson who is already so famous he's signing autographs.

Maybe Austin was friends with the Guess Who and they sent him a preview or demo of their hot new single.

Here's one for you Buttmunker:

Catch Me If You Can uses a Dusty Springfield song from 1980

And in a Knight's Tale (which clearly takes place in the 1300's) the characters seem to know the words to Queen's We Are The Champions

Was American Woman being played in Austin's party or was it just a soundtrack song/intro to Heather Graham for us, the audience to hear?

If the characters weren't hearing the song, then it's a non-issue.

Luke Skywalker didn't really hear an orchestra, either.

What music would you rather have?

Orchestras weren't invented yet either, so I guess we can't compose a score by John Williams, etc.

By the theory of music to match the times, Braveheart should just have drums, tin whistles, and a guitar. And what about Gladiator? Definitely no orchestra then, probably just drums and a snake charmer flute.

Dusty Springfield stopped having hits after "Son Of A Preacher Man," that is, until she collaborated with Pet Shop Boys in 1986 for "What Have I Done To Deserve This?"

Which Springfield song was it?

If it's on the soundtrack that's OK, when the characters actually sing the song it's a little sketchy. And the song was We Will Rock You, my mistake.

It's the song from The Stunt Man. I don't know if it was ever on any of her earlier albums, but I don't think so.

If there's one thing in the world I can't stand that's plot holes!
