Texas Chainsaw remake

 Great a bunch of young GAP models. What I liked about the original was the people looked REAL. They might as well get Freddy Prinze Jr and Tara Reid.

Jepthah 01-10-03 05:42 PM

I hope this tanks while raising awareness of the original, the true and pioneering seminal work of horror mastery.

What a horrible idea this remake is.

Geofferson 01-10-03 10:36 PM

PolloDiablo 01-10-03 11:56 PM

This is the first I've heard of this remake and I am appalled, why the hell can't the studios leave well enough alone and find somewhere else to dig for cash. One of the things that makes the original film so frightening is the cheap "indie" way it was produced, it gives it a realistic feel. I just don't think this movie will transfer well at all into a big budget studio production, I mean does anyone think Blair Witch would have been better if it had been given a bigger budget, pretty hollywood actors, and multi-million dollar special effects???? I sincerely hope this tanks.

They should have re-released the original into the theatres and show the kids of today how a true classic horror movie can still hold its own after all these years.

DumDum 01-11-03 01:40 AM

Didn't they get some pretty well known director to do this? Michael Bay or someone I think?

I also heard McG is set to direct the remake of Citizen Kane.

I find that movie, especially horror movies, tend not to age as well, the terror of watching these movies is a product of its age. I doubt the movie would be as effective in the cheap/teen slasher, internet age.

I watched it a few years back and found it really bad.

There's no doubt of the impact its had on modern horror films and that modern remakes of classics are bad.

Trout 01-11-03 02:55 PM

Are they gonna' get Dan Dan Fielding to do the opening narration again?

soxrule 01-12-03 12:29 AM

This should be bad just look at the remake of psycho. Enough said.

The kids would just laugh it off the screen like they did The Exorcist. What's tragic is that this remake will replace the original on the shelves at video stores (as happened with Psycho).

Steve Phillips 01-13-03 11:59 AM

I don't think the remake of PSYCHO has replaced the original.

I'm not a huge fan of TCM, but I think this remake looks pretty bad. What eve happened to the propsed DAWN OF THE DEAD remake? Hopefully, it will die now that a fourth Romero film may be happening. I can just see teenagers in the mall with cell phones.........stopping talking just long enough to shoot a zombie (with no gore of course).

We've already had three sequels to TCM, none of which were much good. But this one will likely make money opening weekend..

I completely disagree.

This has got to be one of the best horror films of all time: probably only behind The Exorcist.

Psycho is nowhere near as suspenseful or scary as this film. While being a good film, Psycho is completely overrated.

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, to me, is one of the only real claustrophobic feeling films - and I felt like I was with the teens on their quest through hell, especially the chick at the end who probably had to go to a mental house after the filming of this movie.

By the way, IMDB says the remake is a less gory and more suspenseful film. The original is not all that gory at all and I can't wait until this comes out so I can go and laugh at everyone going to see it.

Pointyskull 01-13-03 03:56 PM

As a long time fan of the original, I cringed when I saw this particular thread title.

However - after looking at the cast photo - I will admit that anything with a sweaty Jessica Biel in a tight belly shirt is going to be GREAT! :eyebrow:

Stoolie 01-13-03 04:07 PM

Did anybody see the sequel/remake with McConaughey and Zellweger? I read that it was terrible. The pictures look downright silly. They are all too pretty. That was one thing I liked about Blair Witch, the people looked ordinary.

Like someone said before, Gap models in distress is not good horror.

Maybe I'll be wrong though.

After Darkness Falls got a PG-13, I wouldn't be surprised if they watered this one down at all. -rolleyes-

A film with a title like Texas Chainsaw Massacre screams PG-13 family fun, doesn't it?

, I think I'm gonna have to see this for that reason alone.

Thoughts on the 'Texas Chainsaw Massacre' trailer?

http://www.apple.com/trailers/newlin...railer_lg.html

Whatcha think? I think it looks like it MIGHT be alright. Not sure, though.

Rogue588 07-16-03 08:39 PM

umm....what's the point of this remake?

is this a "reimagining" or is it a "homage" ala Van Sant's "Psycho"?

while I was watching it, I though "gee, this trailer looks like this is an MTV production" then came "produced by Michael Bay" and "directed by Marcus Nispel"...

-ohbfrank-

gotta say...Jessica Biel sure looks mighty fine in them jeans though..

Charlie Goose 07-16-03 08:41 PM

Feh. It looks like the standard slasher pic. Attractive teenagers decimated in unusual ways one by one until only the gutsy heroine remains.

http://charliegoose.homestead.com/files/goose.jpg Honk!

PunchDrunkBob 07-16-03 08:42 PM

The only things that reminded me of the original were the lightbulb flashes/sounds, and the ass shot by the swing. Gotta love that ass shot!

yecul 07-16-03 08:50 PM

Hm, looks absolutely nothing like the original. It'll probably be bad. But, who knows...

Sgt Hartman seems like a great choice, IMO.

TO MAKE MONEY!!!!!

Class dismissed.

conscience 07-16-03 09:30 PM

Remember...the filmmakers stated this remake is going for a more suspenseful mood rather than the bloody concept of the original.
