Which Horror Films did you originally see at the theaters throughout the years? Or ones that you remember anyhow?

I didn't have a good time with most of these. I can still remember being bored out of my mind with Nightmare 5 and H20 as examples.

Nightmare on Elm Street 3 was very fun at the time. I saw Scream before it broke out and just thought it was just alright personally. Scream 2 was a little more fun due to a big audience. Child's Play scared me back then (oh well).

Have absolutely no idea why I never ended up seeing Elm Street 4 theatrically (with how popular it was back then). I still remember the tv spots for it. Damn.

Some highlights would be A L I E N (both 79 & 03 runs), ALIENS, The Thing, Predator (Not really horror), many slashers, and Event Horizon. I saw a matinee Event Horizon showing and I was the only one in the theater. It was pretty cool watching it all alone in a giant theater. When I saw Predator there was a pimp with 3 of his women sitting behind me. He was funnier than hell. Kept talking to the screen.

I had an okay run before we had to move to Hickville in late '86 and had to deal with a theater that only had one screen (ALWAYS had to wait for video for everything....Still do, actually) But before that, I remember going to see:

When I'd go back to visit my hometown, I remember checking out:

Tremors-I should add this to that "What was your biggest surprise?" thread on the movie board. I had so much fun with this.

Near Dark-A disappointment at first because I remember being scared shitless before the movie began. Not knowing at all what to expect. Since I didn't see no trailer or no TV Spot for the movie, all I could rely on was the gory poster. Within the first 5 minutes, I realized this wasn't gonna be too scary.

Predator-Like Ripley mentioned above, not really horror, but a cool movie-going experience nonetheless. That was mostly due to the fact that I didn't know much about this movie at all. I was just expecting it to be another Commando clone. But thanks to arriving late at the movies (My dad and I showed up right before the troops were about to enter the jungle) we ended up being just as confused as the troops were. What was this thing stalking them? A beast from the jungle? A military experiment gone wrong? A devil from hell? It wasn't untill I saw the movie a 2nd time (And watched the beginning) then I knew the answer.

Stopped being a big horror fan throughout the 90's (Before the recent resurrection) but here's some others that come to mind:

A couple of friends and I sneaked into 'The Exorcist' and 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' during their re-releases in 1975. I was 10 at the time...suffice to say they made a huge impression and I have been addicted to horror films ever since. Nothing will ever top those theatrical experiences.

I know that I have mentioned this film is other post about this subject:

my mother dropped my sister (age 5) and I (age 6) off at the library to see a screening of the 1922 'Nosferatu' (my mom had no idea they were showing this) - wahhh! I loved it, my sister has a great disdain for it...

other highlights:

Alien - as part of a 70mm retrospect at the Uptown
The Fly (Cronenberg) my friend and I were completely grossed out
Blair Witch - one of the few attempts from my sister to resee a horror film - needless to say we both came out of it ready to hurl, the camerawork was vomit inducing.
Demons - a high school friend of mine passed off as my older brother to get us into this unrated (no one under 17) film - we dug it...
Poltergeist - I dragged my mom to see cause I really really really wanted to see it, all she remembered from it was one of the back speakers in the theatre was directly overhead us and was insanely loud. I don't think she cared for it...
CHUD - one of the most memorable "bad" horror films I remember saying loudly after the film: "that sucked"

I wish I could remember what type of print it was when I saw it, but I was too young to know such things. Same with Star Wars. I did see them in a big theater in Cincinnati though.

So many, but the most memorable was Nightmare on Elm Street. The print they had was dirty and scratched up so it looked like a home movie...made it even creepier.
