Horror Films you saw at the Theater?

Which Horror Films did you originally see at the theaters throughout the years? Or ones that you remember anyhow?

Here are the ones I remember seeing theatrically.

Nightmare on Elm Street 3 (87)
Child's Play (88)
Nightmare on Elm Street 5 (89)
Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare (91)
Scream (96)
Scream 2 (97)
I Know What You Did Last Summer (97)
Bride of Chucky (98)
H20 (98)
Wishmaster (98)
Valentine (01) - Oh no...
The Ring (02)
Wrong Turn (03)
Freddy vs Jason (03)

I didn't have a good time with most of these. I can still remember being bored out of my mind with Nightmare 5 and H20 as examples.

Nightmare on Elm Street 3 was very fun at the time. I saw Scream before it broke out and just thought it was just alright personally. Scream 2 was a little more fun due to a big audience. Child's Play scared me back then (oh well).

Have absolutely no idea why I never ended up seeing Elm Street 4 theatrically (with how popular it was back then). I still remember the tv spots for it. Damn.

I'll second that.

Some highlights would be A L I E N (both 79 & 03 runs), ALIENS, The Thing, Predator (Not really horror), many slashers, and Event Horizon. I saw a matinee Event Horizon showing and I was the only one in the theater. It was pretty cool watching it all alone in a giant theater. When I saw Predator there was a pimp with 3 of his women sitting behind me. He was funnier than hell. Kept talking to the screen.

Definetly not as much as I would've liked to.

I had an okay run before we had to move to Hickville in late '86 and had to deal with a theater that only had one screen (ALWAYS had to wait for video for everything....Still do, actually) But before that, I remember going to see:

The Beyond (It was the "Seven Doors of Death" version)
Cujo
The Fly
Children of the Corn
Aliens
Elm Street 2 (Amazingly, Part 4 managed to play at Hickville)
Cat's Eye
Gremlins/Troll/Ghoulies
House
Dreamscape (Not really horror, but those nightmare sequences gave me the creeps)
Return of the Living Dead
Christine
Silver Bullet
Poltergeist 2 & 3
Twilight Zone-The Movie
Exorcist III (This played at Hickville too!)

When I'd go back to visit my hometown, I remember checking out:

Tremors-I should add this to that "What was your biggest surprise?" thread on the movie board. I had so much fun with this.

Near Dark-A disappointment at first because I remember being scared shitless before the movie began. Not knowing at all what to expect. Since I didn't see no trailer or no TV Spot for the movie, all I could rely on was the gory poster. Within the first 5 minutes, I realized this wasn't gonna be too scary.

Predator-Like Ripley mentioned above, not really horror, but a cool movie-going experience nonetheless. That was mostly due to the fact that I didn't know much about this movie at all. I was just expecting it to be another Commando clone. But thanks to arriving late at the movies (My dad and I showed up right before the troops were about to enter the jungle) we ended up being just as confused as the troops were. What was this thing stalking them? A beast from the jungle? A military experiment gone wrong? A devil from hell? It wasn't untill I saw the movie a 2nd time (And watched the beginning) then I knew the answer.

Stopped being a big horror fan throughout the 90's (Before the recent resurrection) but here's some others that come to mind:

Night of the Living Dead remake
Silence of the Lambs
Jason Goes To Hell (Crowd was a blast)
From Dusk til Dawn
Halloween-Curse of Myers (Saw it a dollar theater. Wanted my dollar back)
Scream 2
The Exorcist/Version you never saw
House on Haunted Hill remake
From Hell
Frailty
Freddy Vs Jason
Dawn/Dead remake
Land of the Dead
Devil's Rejects
Hostel

A couple of friends and I sneaked into 'The Exorcist' and 'The Texas Chainsaw Massacre' during their re-releases in 1975. I was 10 at the time...suffice to say they made a huge impression and I have been addicted to horror films ever since. Nothing will ever top those theatrical experiences.

I know that I have mentioned this film is other post about this subject:

my mother dropped my sister (age 5) and I (age 6) off at the library to see a screening of the 1922 'Nosferatu' (my mom had no idea they were showing this) - wahhh! I loved it, my sister has a great disdain for it...

other highlights:

Alien - as part of a 70mm retrospect at the Uptown
The Fly (Cronenberg) my friend and I were completely grossed out
Blair Witch - one of the few attempts from my sister to resee a horror film - needless to say we both came out of it ready to hurl, the camerawork was vomit inducing.
Demons - a high school friend of mine passed off as my older brother to get us into this unrated (no one under 17) film - we dug it...
Poltergeist - I dragged my mom to see cause I really really really wanted to see it, all she remembered from it was one of the back speakers in the theatre was directly overhead us and was insanely loud. I don't think she cared for it...
CHUD - one of the most memorable "bad" horror films I remember saying loudly after the film: "that sucked"

I wish I could remember what type of print it was when I saw it, but I was too young to know such things. Same with Star Wars. I did see them in a big theater in Cincinnati though.

Nearly everything good in the last 35 years (I'm 42). Which also means very little in the last ten years or so, hahaha.

Nightmare on Elm Street 3,4 and 5
Hills Have Eyes remake
Hostel
They Live!
Prince Of Darkness

I rarely go to the movies. I went a lot back when I was a kid in the 80's, but I saw mostly comedies for some reason. I think because I was always going with a girl.

Way too many to count. I used to spend a ton of time at the theater when I was younger. I'd see everything playing eventually.

Same here, way way too many to list.

However, the first R rated movie I saw in a theater was Dawn of the Dead.

the remake or the original? - the original was very briefly R-rated but was for the most part released "unrated" (no one under 17 admitted)

So many, but the most memorable was Nightmare on Elm Street. The print they had was dirty and scratched up so it looked like a home movie...made it even creepier.

A Nightmare on Elm Street
Freddy's Dead: The Final Nightmare
The People Under the Stairs

That is all I can think of, and those last two really suck.

M
Dead Alive (twice)
Cannibal Ferox

It's Alive
Blacula
Last House On The Left

The Shining
Sleepy Hollow
Stir Of Echoes
Van Helsing (not really horror)
eXistenZ (does body horror count?)
The Omen 2006
The Sixth Sense
The Hunger
Dawn Of The Dead (1978)
John Carpenter's Vampires
American Psycho
The Grudge
Bride Of Chucky
Freddy V Jason

Thats all I can think of, and I know I'm missing a lot...

A lot of the older titles were in midnight movies, revivals, and horror movie marathons

Hellraiser
Lost Boys
Return of the Living Dead 2
Shocker
Hello Mary Lou: Prom Night 2

I have this weird take on seeing horror movies in the theater…If I don’t go see them, they’ll stop making them. Well, they'll keep making them, but they'll be "direct to video" and they'll suck. Weird, huh?

Not many:

The Omen (the original one, my mom took me for some reason)
Halloween
Pet Semetary
Alien (mom took me to this one too)
Shaun of the Dead
The Shining
The Ring
Scream and Scream 2
Creature From the Black Lagoon (in 3D at the Rialto)
Psycho (the remake)
The Exorcist (the re-release)
Night of the Living Dead (about 10 years after it came out)

Others that may or may not count
Army of Darkness
Resident Evil
Alien 3
Interview with the Vampire
Shadow of the Vampire
Sixth Sense
Dracula remake
Frankenstein remake

There'd be more but getting anyone to go to a horror movie with is practically impossible.

I've never actually seen a Friday the XIIIth movie (I have the first one on order though).

I'm 43 so I've seen too many at the theater to count. My first was around age 11 "The Reincartnation of Peter Proud" which also was the first "R" rated movie I saw.

Highlights:

The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (original)
Halloween
Dawn of the Dead (original)
Rabid
Scanners
Suspiria
The Howling
The Hills Have Eyes (original)

....and all the slasher movies of the 1980s

Another one I just remembered:
Terror in the Aisles

Can't be sure, but I think this was actually the last documentary I saw at the theater!
