From IMDB :

- Director Cameo: [Peter Jackson] In the tower at Helm's Deep throwing a spear.

(Didnt see him)

- Peter Jackson's children appear as "cute Rohan refugee children".

These are kinda cool :

The Orc battle cries for the Helm's Deep battle sequence were provided by a stadium of 25,000 cricket fans, who screamed the war chants, spelled out on the Diamond Vision screen, with Jackson himself leading the crowd

When arriving upon the set to film the scene in which Andy Serkis (Gollum) has to catch a fish, they discovered that it had snowed overnight. Peter Jackson had the snow cleared on the set (which included defrosting the river as well as the land surrounding it) by 1:00 PM.

Ok... I spotted PJ in the battle on Helms Deep... but where was he in Fellowship I don't remember seeing him?

Also was I the only one durring the scene with Sam, Frodo and Gollum at the black gates humming "Oh Wee Oh... Ooooo Um?" as the Wild men in gold were marching inside...

When the hobbits enter Bree one of the humans they walk past is Peter Jackson. You can see him clearly for a moment - in fact, he even manages to belch.

The infamour "Wilhelm's Scream" was used in the Helms Deep Battle. For those living under a rock, it is the scream used in all of the Star Wars/Indiana Jones movies ...maybe a few others.

Happens at the very beginning of the battle very noticeable. For those you have the Ep.2 DVD, it can be found right after the queen's ship blows up.

The "scream" takes place as one of the elves is shot by a crossbow and falls over the wall in to the orcs. I believe PJ's cameo takes place as the orcs break through the gate.

I noticed his children in the cave in Helm's Deep, because I just watched the first appendix a few weeks ago from LOTR: EE and I distinctly remember him talking about his children w/ Fran Walsh and how they were perfect little hobbit children. Their faces just stuck out to me in the cave scene - it was pretty cool.

On the other hand, I haven't noticed PJ in either film, but now I will know to look for him.

I actually thought they were Sean Astin's children because the FOTR extras say how he brought his wife and kids along. Plus, the kids looked A LOT like him. But you're prob. right about them being PJ's kids.

Two of the kids in Helm's Deep were definately PJ's kids...they also appear in fellowship when Bilbo is telling stories at his birthday party...

It's right after the first time the orcs use the battering ram on Helm's Deep. The battering ram comes thru the column of orcs, rams the door, the men brace the door, then it cuts outside to a chubby bearded man yelling and throwing a spear.

Here's a web link with a nice, concise list of movies that have used "Wilhelm's Scream": http://www.hollywoodlostandfound.net/wilhelm.html
