How many people see more than one movie at the theater?
I know there have been threads about this before, but it was a long time ago.
I didn't use to do this, but ever since I started college I have just to save money. Like tonight I went to see Star Trek, then walked in on the Hot Chick about 5 minutes before it started. The prices up here are crazy compared to what I am used to. I pay $5 for a student ticket back in Maryland, but up here in New York it is $8.25 for a movie ticket. That is too much money in my opinion, and to make it right I usually sneak into one more movie just to make it worth the money for me. I know that by doing this it is taking money away from the films that I am seeing, but I usually pay for the main feature and sneak into one I have already seen or wouldn't even bother paying for otherwise. |
i never did that but has anyone ever done this? walk into a store like walmart, pick up a dvd then walk out. its pretty cool cuz you get to see a movie for free.
|
I've seen more than one movie at the theater...hell i've seen over 30 at the theaters here.
Oh, you mean more than one per visit. Only once. My theater worker friend got us in to see "Wild Wild West" then he said we should walk into "South Park".....so i didnt pay for either of these movies. But i didnt really care for the South Park movie and now i wish i had just went home after WWW. Since then i've been a good little movie viewer, i've only gone and seen movies i really wish to see or i wait till thier DVD release if i missed them in theaters. |
I did that once - had an entire day planned out with a couple friends. Only made it through about 6 of the 8 movies before getting sick of it.
|
yeah, when i had a bunch of friends that worked at the multiplex--sometimes my friends and i would spend all day at the theater. the last time i did it was when i actually paid to see Blood Work, then i figured, because it was the worst movie i'd ever seen, i deserved to see another, so i walked in to xXx, and almost cried.

I live in Nebraska at it's only $5 before evening hours so I like to go arouund noon. It used to be $4! I never did that, but I've seen the same more twice or more but at different settings. I seen Spider-man x3, Episode IIx2, Blade IIx2, Queen of the Damnedx2, and XXXx2.

I've paid for and seen more than one film on the same day, but at different theaters. I know I saw L.A. Confidential and Tomorrow Never Dies on the same day. Run Lola Run and Summer of Sam. There have been others. I don't do it often, but every now and then.
|
I sometimes see 2 movies in a day. Sometimes I'll see one movie, then drive to another theatre complex. Even if I see 2 movies in the same complex, I will walk out once and pay again. I think I only "snuck in" to another showing once, but I felt too guilty -- I'd rather pay again.

I've done that and saw in one day:
<li><b>My Best Friend's Wedding<ui> <li>Hercules<ui> <li>Face/Off<ui> <li>Batman & Robin</b><ui> But it wasn't worth it, since 1) I got a headache 2) My butt was sore 3) Was TRAPPED and couldn't go the bathroom for 10 hours once the first movie started cause the ticket-ushers would catch me heading towards the bathroom 4) Couldn't get anything to eat cause same reasons as #3 5) I ended the day with <b>Batman & Robin</b> of all things... So I DID see 4 movies for the price of one, but in return, I PAID the price for A FULL BLADDER, IMMENSE HUNGER, and a POUNDING HEADACHE and ACHING BUTT. |
I did use to do that, but now that I'm an old fart, if I want to see two movies, I pay to see two movies.
|
Last time I saw two movies at a theater in one day was when I went by myself to an early show and saw Contact for the second time, then had some friends invite me along to Air Force One in the evening. (Paid for both of course)
Besides, I've got too many movies on DVD to watch to be wasting all that time at the theater... |
As of this year.I've only done it once.
My friend Paul had the idea since we go to the movies ocasionaly.Since prices where very high, why not make the most for the $$ & see two films? The plan was find a film starting at a certain time & another film begining as soon as the first film ends or within a few minutes. That way after the first film, make a trip to the bathroom, get a drink from the fountain, then stroll on into the next film as if we bought a ticket. So once we saw Blade 2..had a blast. Then afterwards Paul wanted to see Sorrority Boys..so we walked into that durring the previews.Sure i was alittle nervous about if we got caught since the place has camera's in the hall.Yet nothing happened & i just watched the film which thank god we did not pay for.It was a piece of crap with only a couply rare sporadic laughs. We were going to do the same thing when we saw ET & Jason X sometime.Of course we saw those at another theater which is split into two sections. Thus making it impossible to sneak into a film on the other end, since you have to walk past a usher who would check your ticket.Yet at the huge multiplex we saw Blade 2 at.The entire theater is connected in a few long empty hallways. So we could walk freely from one theater to the next,as long as you play it safe & don't get caught. How i wish, i wish i would have asked for a ticket to another film when Paul dragged me to see Jackass. That 'film' was just unfunny & irritating.Paul loved it of course. I would have at least wanted to sneak into another film to make up for that piece of crap.Yet since it was a late showing & we're at the dumb split in two multiplex. There were no good films playing near Jackass. So i did not want to waste my time on another piece of crap.Besides the DV shot Jackass gave me a headache. The only other time i snuck into a film was back in 1992. My older by one year brother wanted to take myself & Josh(a friend) to go see 3 Ninja's because it was a awsome film.We thought it looked dumb, but decided to tag along.Brother claims he knows the bus system & we're supposed to be seeing it at Har Mar theater which is about a 10 minute drive from our house(+ very long walk without transportation). So here we are kids ranging from 11 1/2(me)-13 & we get on the wrong bus thanks to our know it all brother. We end up downtown in St Paul! I was nervous since i've never been out anywhere far from home before. So i kept thinking of getting off the bus & walking home since i knew which way to go.Yet my brother kept insisting to not do that & just see where the bus goes, since it's bound to go back to where it picked us up sooner or later.Well since we are going through downtown. My brother says we should go see whats palying a Galtier Cinema(a crappy theater btw). Not wanting to pay for the film in case we needed the $$ for a emergency being on our own downtown for the first time.We snuck inside easily. First we asked to use the bathroom which is near the entrance/food counter. They said "Sure"..& we all went inside.peaked out through the door & while the person behind the counter was picking stuff up,we silently snuck over to the hall & towards the theaters. We also bought some cans of pop at a video store on the first floor since it was much cheaper than theater prices:) We decided to see A League of There Own which didn't start for almost 30 minutes! So we were sitting there, bored as hell & started goofing off since we finished our pop long before the film began. We through the cans at the screen & into the seats ahead of us,since no one was there & had a laugh over it. Finally the film begins & we're a respectably bunch who watched quietly..& loved the film, found it very funny & entertaining. After the film..we just blended in with the crowd leaving another film & strolled on out & headed home on the right bus this time:) |
You would think emphysema and cancer and heart disease and malignant tumors of every other part of my body would be a good reason to quit smoking again.
This one takes the cake, though! After 90 to 120 minutes I’m squealing for a smoke and I GOTTA GET OUTTA THERE!!!! I can’t even put a sad smiley here because it’s my fault. Wotta pain. |
Yeah, I've done that before - I was so disgusted with Mars Attacks! that I snuck into the Star Trek movie with the Borg. I figured that two really shitty movies makes up one moderate one.
Just this year, I theater jumped from Windtalkers to Sum of All Fears - and a good thing too, since Sum sucked. My prime motivator? Well, when it costs 8.50 to get into the EARLY show, and I have to spend half an hour watching commercials before the movie, well I get good and pissed. I'm overcome by this burning urge to Stick it to the Man. If the movie going experience was a value for the money: good sound, projector ran at full brightness, affordable concessions, and no ads - all for 6 or 7 bucks (5 bucks if you catch a matinee) then I wouldn't feel cheated. |
I theater hop all the time and have no guilt. Want to know why? Because I have never met a theater manager who cared.
|
Last time I did that succesfully was with Rushmore... I immediately then snuck into Office Space afterwards. Then I was sad because I knew there would be no more good comedy that year.
I have unsuccesfully done it with Wild Wild West, Lake Placid, and Tomb Raider, none of which I wanted to see even for free. I also got tired of waiting for xXx to play so we decided to go see Swimfan instead. |

There are those of us who have jobs who are sick to death of paying for the higher prices to cover slothful people such as yourself. Sorry, don't mean to sound rude, but people who steal piss me off. |

Re: Re: Re: How many people see more than one movie at the theater?
Originally posted by Mittman Hey, I don't feel like I'm stealing at all. It doesn't cost the theater any more to have me sit in one of the seats that would have gone empty. Plus I would never have paid money to see The Hot Chick. Now that I did see it and I liked it, I will probably buy this one when it comes out on DVD. In my opinion Buena Vista just made money on me. I don't do this often, in fact I probably have only actually done it about 2 times, but I don't feel like I am stealing. I steal a movie from a store, the manager has to eat the cost. I see an extra movie, the theater makes more money by me making another trip to the concession stand. Sorry, don't mean to sound rude, but people who pre-judge others piss me off. |
I'm in the never area for this. Part of me feels it's just sort of trashy to do in the first place but more so that when I go to a theater to see a film, it's to see a certain film. I have no desire to wonder in and sit for another 2 hours for some film I don't really want to see in the first place..
Even less so if it's 20 min late for the film.. errrr so now I get to not only see a film I'm not that crazy about but I get to be miss the first part.. errrrr no.. I mean what pure honor stuff is even left in this world? Just watch one film and don't make them check tickets at the door all the time and just take one news paper out of the machine. Only time I went to see a dif film then I paid for was errrr god waaaaaaaaaay back when Jaw came out :) I was a little kid (5-6 maybe) and my mom's boyfriend's kid was forced to take me and the kid next door to see 101 dalmations or something like that. Errr well only seats were right in front so Mark dragged us next door to see jaws.. I love it but the kid next door sort of narc-ed on us.. Ya know, being he could not sleep with out nighmares for like a week. heh wimp.. |

"Well, I wouldn't have bought that CD otherwise, so I just downloaded it for free." "Well, I wouldn't have bought that watch otherwise, so I just took it." "Welll, I wouldn't have bought that car otherwise, so I just hotwired it." when does it stop? |
