for psycho, the parents conviced me to see it. great movie and very good plot (unlike the majority of slasher movies).
pulp fiction-right here at dvd talk (do a search and you problably find my thread asking if it was any good)

My favorite movie is Miller's Crossing, the third movie by the Coen brothers. I had already seen and enjoyed their first two movies, so no advertising or reviews were necessary to encourage me to see this film when it was released. I think I first learned of its existence because there was a cover article from Film Comment prior to its general release.

ooo, kewl thread.
i first heard about Lawrence of Arabia a long time ago, because basically everybody talks about it. at least in the film world, which I was subconsciously fascinated with.
i finally got my hands on a copy, when I think I was in high school, but lo and behold, it only had their first part
and so i finally had to wait around 4 years till I saw the rest of the movie on LD, which I loved with repetitive viewing.
it is now my best movie all time coz of the sheer depth and breadth of it. I even bought Lawrence's Four Pillars of Wisdom.
Never have I seen such shots breathtakingly taken. such costumes, such acting, such great use of extras. never again will such a movie be done, coz frankly, it is too expensive to shoot with multitudes of thousands. but who knows, man always finds a way.

My favorite movie is Ghostbusters, a film I grew up watching and have appreciated over the years.
So, I really can't vote in your poll besides "Other." I used to watch it on TV and video (the edited pan & scan TV airings! Horror! ) and I still love it. Very funny and fun.

Hmm, that's a good question. My favorite movie is The Shawshank Redemption. I know I didn't see it in the theater. If I remember correctly, a friend of mine had mentioned seeing it and couldn't say enough good things about it. I think we rented it one night and I fell in love with the film.

Amadeus, and I have no idea of how I heard of it. Probably from trailers/tv spots because I did see it for the first time before it was nominated for an Oscar.

Saw the trailer for The Professional and said damn I've gotta see that! Three years later I heard of a laserdisc in Japan that had an extra half-hour of my fave flick, so $100 less in my bank account and two weeks later I had that baby in my hands and never let it go (until the DVD finally came out of course).

I watched Dark City because of Roger Ebert's review and The Shawshank Redemption because the person renting movies with me picked it.

Fight Club -- I laughed at the trailer when I first saw it in front of Episode I, but the pre-release buzz built up my expectations. Saw it Friday and Saturday opening weekend, and I've never gotten tired of it.
