re: Metal Gear Solid: The Movie (D: Vogt-Roberts) S: Oscar Isaac

Derek Connolly, who penned the box-office smash “Jurassic World” as well as the film’s upcoming sequel, has been brought on to write the latest draft of Sony’s “Metal Gear Solid” adaptation.

Jordan Vogt-Roberts, Connolly’s collaborator on “Kong: Skull Island,” will direct the feature film.

Avi Arad is producing.

Created by Hideo Kojima, the “Megal Gear Solid” video game first launched on PlayStation in 1998 and follows Snake, a soldier who infiltrates a nuclear weapons facility to neutralize the terrorist threat from Foxhound, a renegade special forces unit.

Connolly and “Jurassic World” helmer Colin Trevorrow were discovered by Steven Spielberg following their breakout Sundance hit “Safety Not Guaranteed.”

Following the huge success of Universal’s “Jurassic World,” Connolly has found himself very busy landing jobs on “Kong: Skull Island,” Amblin’s “Intelligent Life” as well as “Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.”

I'll give Vogt-Roberts the benefit of a doubt, I don't have much faith in Connolly's writing though.

I think a Metal Gear Solid movie should have been made 10 years ago and the ship has sailed on the idea but Oscar Isaac is my favorite actor working today and one of the best actors, period. I’d love to see him as Solid Snake.

Mads Mikkelsen would be awesome as Snake.

A Metal Gear Solid movie would be redundant. Those games are 90% cutscene. In fact, I gave up on MGS4 because it felt like I was watching a movie instead of playing a game.

Isaac is probably my favorite actor working today so I’m excited for this. I’ve enjoyed a few of the MGS games but I have never been a fan of the stories. Hopefully the movie tells a better story than the games I’ve played.

I always wanted to like the games but never have really gotten into them. They’re so story driven and have a lot of cut scenes that a movie may work better.

I seem to remember one of the games (maybe for PS2?) had like 45 minute cut scenes. The game play was fun but it got tedious playing 10-15 minutes of game and then have to wait through 30-45 minute cut scenes, that weren’t particularly interesting to begin with. I also seem to remember the cut scenes being unskippable at times.

This series is ridiculously messy, I'm curious what story they'll try to tell with it.

I think Isaac is a great pick for the role. But like all video game movies I really hope they dont mess it up and pull something like Assassins Creed and manage to have a great story all layed out for them then they somehow mess it up. But so far Isaac hasnt picked a dud film that ive seen so I have high hopes

I would rather see modern video game remakes of Metal Gear and Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake. Not sure why this hasn't happened yet.
