Your favorite scene in FOTR?

A couple of personal standouts:
- That one scene right before the battle in Moria where Boromir goes, "They have a cave troll". I love Sean Bean's delivery of that line.
- Aragorn's salute to the enemy at Amon Hen before kicking their collective butts
- That moment when you sense Boromir's peril at the same time Legolas, Gimli and Aragorn do and the camera follows their path thru the trees. Great shot.

Two of my favorite scenes made Aragon seem very "priestlike" to me. The reverent way he placed the hilt of Narsil(that Boromir dropped after cutting himself) back on the altar and kneeling in a reverance is one. The other is when Boromir dies and Aragorn makes a gesture of touching his forehead and kissing Boromir's forehead. Reminded me of someone making the sign of the cross.
Gandalf had many marvellous expressions...especially after Frodo tells him he has been officially labelled as a disturber of the peace, the manaical laugh he makes after setting off some of the fireworks, his inner struggle gazing into the fire and smoking when Frodo enters Bag End after Bilbo's disappearance, etc.
Lots of great moments in the film...the only two I thought were cheesy were when Elrond declares that "You shall be known as (dramatic pause) the Fellowship of the Ring." (dramatic music swells) and at the end where Gimli declares "the Fellowship has failed." The response, friendly pat on the shoulder, and knowing nod/wink/smile always make me cringe.

My favorite scene is towards the end, when Frodo is on the boat, already cast off, and Sam comes running out of the woods to catch him. I thought it was so touching how Sam basically would kill himself in order to follow Frodo...and how Frodo rescued him? Very touching.

The opening scene of the theatrical cut. What a great way to introduce people to LOTR mythology and back story. Full of action to keep everyone's attention, and beautifully shot. Plus the synchronized scythe-thingies were damn_cool too

The scene where Aragorn bids Boromir farewell is touching IMO. Viggo Mortensen added a nice touch by shedding a tear afterwards as he realizes what he has to do and the responsibility he has to the race of men.

So the full title for the first Rings movie is "Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring." or abbreviated as: LOTR:FOTR

I'd have to say one of my favorites is a scene following Gandalf's "death". I think it was Boromir or Aragon that told Frodo "you have the live of so many on your heart, don't be weighted down by the death of another" or something like that.

Bilbo finally dropping the ring; that took a lot of strength on his part. Then the fact that the ring took a single THUD to the ground.... showing just how heavy it was (figuratively)

When Frodo sees Bilbo again at Rivendell.
Bilbo has grown so old and is obviously feeble,
you feel his time is fleeting and you are sad because of it.
Legolas and his bow. It was a pleasure to see Elvish-uber-bowmanship in the act. It's a mainstay of role playing games, but to actually see it in action was masterful!
Many of the parts or scenes in the movie that affect me the most are the ones that harken back to an earlier story mentioned in the Silmarillion or the other books. ie: The watchtower of Amon Sūl or The halls of Dwarrowdelf. And thinking back on the long tragic history of those places and peoples. So much pathos.

The scene prior the appearence of the Balrog, where we see in the distance the glowing red of the creature amongst the pillars and all the orcs whiggin' out and scurrying away. The "You Shall Not Pass" line, Ian's intensity is just staggering.
The extended Cave Troll sequence where Sam almost gets flattened by it's foot.

I love the scene of them coming out of Moria. The music, the images of the hobbits crying their eyes out, and Aragorn saying, "Legolas, get them up!"
The look on Frodo's face is awesome, you see his grief, but he also looks more determined than ever.
Gets me every time even though I've read the books and know the rest of Gandalf's story.

How's this for contrast?
My wife likes the beginning with the introduction of the Hobbits because it's so calm and peaceful
I enjoy the whole scene in in the Mines. Lots of action!
I will admit it's hard to pick just one favorite scene.

Gandalf setting off the small fireworks for the children on his arrival in the Shire, thier excitement, then dissapointment, then elation (and his and Frodo's reaction) puts a smile on my face.
Gandalf "You shall not pass !" as said before, powerful.
Gift giving scene in EE, because of the signifigance it represents for the rest of the story.
Passing through the Argonath, just sums up the epic feel of the whole movie.
