Ron Howards next project....

was going to be "the Alamo", but he bailed out on that a few months ago. just read that he'll instead be doing a film based on a book by Thomas Eidson titled "The Last Ride" a western set in 1886 new mexico about a father (Tommy Lee Jones) who returns home to make peace with his now-grown daughter, Maggie, (Cate Blanchett) whom he has not seen since she was a little girl. when Maggie's young daughter is kidnapped by a band of outcasts, Maggie must unite with her father to rescue her.

sounds cool - anyone ever read the book?

Cool, hopefully that means he'll film it in New Mexico. I like it when they film movies in my state.

Is the young daughter a talking pie?

Sounds like a slightly modified version of John Wayne's Big Jake plot. I like it, particularly Cate Blanchett.

You forgot to mention the robot who goes back in time for some reason.

I heard Howard was asking to much money to do the Alamo, so Disney told him and Crowe to shove it!

sounds interesting

Anyone read the book?

Sounds like Ransom with ponies.

Howard, you've done it again!

Geofferson 11-17-02 06:20 PM

Sounds good. I'd like to read this book before the movie comes out.

To be fair, I don't think Howard "bailed out" on The Alamo. He and Crowe were let go (although I think Howard is still attached as a Producer).

But it wasn't just for budgetary reasons -- Disney wants The Alamo to be a more profitable PG-13, and Howard was pushing for a more realistic R.
