LOTR Extended Edition 12-hour marathon screening!

Has anyone received a notice of being invited to this event in either Los Angeles or New York?

I just got the confirmation by email that I have been picked to attend the 12-hour -eek- screening. It seems as though it will be a viewing of the entire 4-disc set!

I'll update this thread when I find more information.

PixyJunket 11-05-02 02:19 PM

Heh.. I just entered.. the one for Dallas at least, which is just the movie.. hope I come home to a surprise.

:D

Course I have nobody to take with me.

:(

Giles 11-05-02 02:21 PM

Ya know... even though the EE cut of the film is coming out next Tuesday. I wish New Line would have booked more screenings of this, I would have payed to see it on the big screen.

PixyJunket 11-05-02 02:24 PM

I would have paid to. LOTS of people would have. OMG. DLP? Who wouldn't pay to see that?

Giles 11-05-02 02:35 PM

Of course the only Washington DC screen that is outfitted to playback DLP is out in Merrifield Virginia, not a great location if you are coming from DC or Maryland, the rush hour drive is one of the worst in the Nation.

So, all the EE screenings are DLP Presentations?

PixyJunket 11-05-02 02:37 PM

Yup.. it's some kind of special engagement with TI to show off thier gear.

I swear to god, someone's head is going to roll if Loews/Cineplex doesn't add a DLP system to the new theatres they are opening in Georgetown (Washington DC) in late November/Early December.

I won entry to the NYC screening. Is it for one person, or can I bring a guest? Not sure from the email....

Out of curiosity, can you name the theatre it's getting screened at?

Mr. Cornell 11-05-02 09:32 PM

I won entry for the LA screening. Now I need to figure out how to get down there for the Monday screening. I live in Northern California. First I need to find a way to get the day off work ;) then I need to figure out how to get down there and who to stay with. I wonder if I can bring a friend? I'm thinking it would be nice to bring the friend who I'm gonna ask to stay with ;)

Also, if I can't figure out a way to make this screening, does anyone want to take my place if I can't make it? Gimme a holler... ;)

/me waits for his inbox to get swamped

matrixrok9 11-06-02 02:46 AM

You've got mail! hehhehe.

Centurion 11-06-02 10:16 AM

OK, I received an email from Amy Gorton from Newline Cinema.
Nothing really new here, but just to confirm what has already been posted:
  • Begins at 12:00pm, ends at 11:15pm
  • It will be a screening of all 4 discs of the Special Extended Edition LOTR
  • Screening attendees will be provided with food, and refreshments throughout the day.
  • Attendees who dress in LORD OF THE RINGS costumes will be awarded coupons at the end of the screening redeemable for a free copy of the Special Extended Edition DVD of THE LORD OF THE RINGS: THE FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING, redeemable between the hours of midnight and 1AM on Tuesday, November 12th from Virgin Megastore
Last thing on the email is an attachment of a release form that must be printed up and signed by you. You are to bring this signed form with you during the event.
Quickly reading it over, it seems as if there are prizes that are going to be given away...they just want to make sure you are not affiliated with the film or with the production studio in any way, shape, or form.

NYC screening available!

OK, it figures. I won and I can't make it on Monday. $^( So, to promote DVDTalk, I will give my NYC entry to the *first* person here who will agree to wear a costume and pick up the DVD for me at midnight in the nearby Virgin store. Will consider other offers too, I guess. (As in other DVDs and you keep the LotR?) I just want to see that someone goes who really wants to!

As noted in the above post, the screening (on 42nd St.) runs from noon to midnight, with food and drink supplied. I think it's fair to give up my admission in exchange for the DVD.

OK, so email me and first person with an offer gets my admission.

Lastblade 11-06-02 01:35 PM

damnit I wish I have some costume to dress up and go get that DVD for ya.... if not I would love to get that ticket from you somehow (I won't be dressing up regardless)

drmoze 11-06-02 01:37 PM

Well, I will consider other offers. Nothing unreasonable, but I want to at least win *something* out of the deal! $^)

Lastblade 11-06-02 02:24 PM

what do you like doc? Games? DVDs? $$$$? :)

drmoze 11-06-02 02:48 PM

DVDs, perhaps, even used ones. Maybe a game or 2, although I haven't been playing much of anything lately. (The GB gets most of the action just for convenience.)

Mr. Cornell 11-06-02 10:03 PM

Now wait a minute!! You're trying to get stuff from people out of your ticket?? And here I was offering to give mine away!!

zero 11-07-02 03:05 AM

And for those of you not looking forward to this, or feel the need to complain feel free to express your views herehttp://dvdtalk.com/forum/showthread....hreadid=248857:p

Just curious, where did you enter?

dvdmovie1 11-07-02 06:09 AM

I just wanted to congratulate the winners in this thread. I've seen the extended edition (although not on a big screen, I wish I could) and you're in for a real treat.

drmoze 11-07-02 09:40 AM

Hey, I actually *won* something and it turns out (work project deadline!) that I can't go. So I'm offering my ticket (plus they get the LotR DVD after the show if they wear a costume) and all I want in exchange is *something*, even a used DVD that someone doesn't want but I might. And I'm offering it here on DVDTalk rather than to other friends because I won it here and would like to let another participant attend. Is that so bad? Like I said above, I just want to win *something*. $^)

BTW, my admission is still available...

matrixrok9 11-07-02 02:51 PM

So Mr. Cornell, can I have your passes? thanks.

Mr. Cornell 11-07-02 09:47 PM

Er, well, in that case I want *something* too...

Ahhhh, greed. It makes the world go round. :)
