A Bond and Blofeld question

This may have come up before. But, Bond and Bloefeld meet in You Only Live Twice. In the next movie. On Her Majesty's Secret Service, Blofeld doesnt recognize bond right away. Obviously that could be because George Lazenby is playing bond, so it takes Blofeld longer to recognize him. (pre-emptive strike against that joke) So is it just one of those things we are supposed to let go of, or am I missing something.

No. The simple fact is, as far as the original Ian Fleming books go, "Twice" came out after OHMSS. Thus the continuity error.

But based on this argument, Blofeld should never recognize Bond as Blofeld himself is played by a different actor in every movie unless I'm wrong.

But then again, should Felix Leiter recognize James since he's also being played by 6 diiferent actors in 7 films?

And why didn't James recognize Octopussy since she is the dead girlfriend of Scaramanga?

This brings me to this question : Does someone here know how Q must have felt about all the others going away and him being left behind, coming back regularly in every damn movie?

Poor Q!

Blofield doesn't recognize bond because he's wearing spectacles and a kilt. James Bond: Master of Disguise.

Hey, Fielding Mellish. Thanks for the info. That explains it completely. I guess they just took
a "no big deal" attitude about it when they Made OHMSS, which is fine by me. Just something
that nagged me a bit. I am up to Golden Gun now with my little Marathon. Hope I can get them all in before
the 22nd.
Thanks again.

I read on a Bond site way back that there was supposed to be a scene in OHMSS that shows Bond going through plastic surgery. Also, in YOLT Bond is made up to look Japanese, while in OHMSS he clearly is not.

He also doesn't look Japanese by the end of YOLT. While you do see him get the surgery, by the end of the film his eyes are back to normal

SMERSH was a real-life organization. The movie producers don't want to decrease their market size by offending hard-line Russian communists.

Rogue generals and terrorists of independant means are much easier to sell to international markets.

i feel the same way. i think the whole bond vs. crazy rich man/woman who is tryin to take over the world is gettin a little old. part of the appeal of the earlier movies was that you knew even though bond won in the end there was some greater threat out there waitin to strike again. i think they need another reoccuring terrorist organization that bond goes after.

what the series needs

I think the series, in order to be setting new standards of adventure again, should do something more along the line of Clive Cussler's books (Atlantis Found is what comes to mind. Of course, it's escapism...

I was SO hoping that Zao (sp?) in the previews for Die Another Day was actually Ernst Blofeld! Damn! That would have been sooooo COOL! That would make him tougher than Jaws.
