Candyman

I think this movie is very overlooked. I know this because i have been overlooking it for the past couple of years. Tonight i picked it up at my local hollywood video and i have got to say this has a very original story. I am a person who is a big fan of Halloween and friday the 13th this movie is right up there with them. If you have never seen this movie i highly reccomend it. If you have seen this what are your thoughts on this?

Alien Redrum 10-31-02 01:10 AM

Candyman is definitely an underated horror flick.

I remember it scared the hell out of me when it first came out.

I didn't even mind the sequels. :D

matome 10-31-02 07:45 AM

Yep, great fright flick. I know what I'll be watching tonight!

Helllllllennnnnnn...Hellllllennnnnn...

Groucho 10-31-02 07:55 AM

Shortly before it was originally released I attended a screening of Candyman with Clive Barker in attendence. That dude scared me more than this movie ever could.

marty888 10-31-02 09:34 AM

Definitely a winner - years ago, I lived just a few blocks from the housing project where this movie takes place, so it becomes especially creepy for me.

soxrule 10-31-02 02:08 PM

I live on the south side of chicago and i was freakin because projects are not far.

REALLY good movie with a REALLY good score by Philip Glass

woofman 11-01-02 08:57 AM

That movie scared me bad the first time I watched it at home, alone, and in the dark... You couldn't have PAID me to say his name 3 times in the mirror.

mdc3000 11-01-02 09:59 AM

Candyman is one of my favourite Horror flicks ever...period... For me it just works perfectly and the character of Candyman is really fascinating... I even liked Farewell to the Flesh....not as good as the first as far as artistic merit or working as an overall movie, but Tony Todd just ****ing OWNS as Candyman, which makes the movie bearable... now, part 3...that just sucked balls...

MATT

i want to direct Candyman 4

spainlinx0 11-01-02 07:14 PM

Yes, love the movie, own the DVD.

soxrule 11-02-02 11:34 PM

Just bought the movies are the sequels worth a rental?

Khan 11-03-02 06:16 AM

NO. No, no, no.

Sunday Morning 11-03-02 11:34 AM

it's unanimous! Candyman is a great horror film.
Probably the last good scary film.

I liked part 2, it isweak and doesn't hold a candle to part one, yes, but it has some nice moments.

candyman.

candyman.

candyman.

candyman...

matome 11-04-02 07:51 AM

The sequels are terrible! Stick with the original and forget the others even exist.

thejammy 11-04-02 03:31 PM

Yes, Candyman is a great movie. I remember the first time my good friend of mine introduced me to this movie. I swear to god I was almost crapped in my pants.

Spoiler:
especially the part when she wakes up in that pool of blood

I mean the musical score is just incredible and one of the best horrors scores, that I know of.

You can listen to the short previews on amazon for philip glass's work.

Just thinking about it still freaks me out.

soxrule 11-08-02 01:31 PM

Watched Candyman 2 last night and i got admit it was not half bad the only thing it was missing was the chicago element. Definitely not as good as 1 but it was allright.

Cornholio 06-24-03 12:28 PM

The Candyman

I bought this movie on dvd last night for 7 bucks i was wondering if it sucks cause if it does im not gonna waste tonight watching it. ill watch it another time.

victant 06-24-03 12:36 PM

I watched this in the middle of the day in a room with drawn curtains. It freaked me out! (especially since I lived with the whole "Bloody Mary" urban legend growing up)

Groucho 06-24-03 12:41 PM

[GuessWho]It's just Candyman. No "The."[/GuessWho]

Cornholio 06-24-03 12:42 PM

well is it good and scary or just good or does it suck

Groucho 06-24-03 12:44 PM

It doesn't suck. I don't know how easily scared you are, but I suppose it's fairly scary. I saw this movie at pre-release screening with Clive Barker. Meeting him scared me a lot more than the movie ever could. Creepy dude.

for me it's "good and scary". But I guess it depends on what "scares" you.

When I first saw it in theatre, I wouldn't even look in my rear-view mirror on the drive home.

marty888 06-24-03 12:49 PM

It is good.
It is scary.
It DOES NOT suck.

(I used to live a few blocks from the Cabrini Green complex where this takes place. That's scary all by itself.)

matome 06-24-03 01:10 PM

Good & Scary

JDF5244 06-24-03 02:28 PM

REALLY good.
REALLY scary.

Not there anymore. Mixed cheers for "urban renewal."

Anyway, Candyman is an okay movie in my book. I watched it by myself at night and it freaked me out. Didn't do much for me the second time around, however.

Alien Redrum 06-24-03 03:24 PM

Good and scary.

Tony Todd is going to be at this year's horrorfind convention. I can't wait to meet him. :)

caiman 06-24-03 04:35 PM

It's just a good and scary and sorta sucky and scary in a sucky non-scary really good and not scary kinda way.

Ginwen 06-24-03 07:20 PM

Not that scary (more atmospheric), but still a pretty good movie.

Cornholio 06-24-03 09:44 PM

i watched it tonight i thought it was good but not too scary

Revoltor 06-24-03 11:19 PM

If you're terrified of big black men with sharp hooks...you're in luck.

Good movie and sequel too.

mdc3000 06-25-03 12:32 AM

I think the CANDYMAN movies are awesome (1 & 2 at least...3 was terrible)... if you want to see a great, fresh horror flick, the first movie is perfect, and if you just want lots of mindless carange, Candyman 2: Farewell to the Flesh is perfect.

I would avoid part 3 like the plauge... I'd love to be able to get my hands on the rights on Candyman...I'd love to direct Candyman 4. :)

I wonder what happened to ther carreer

Virginia Madsen starred in Candyman, the next DVD I seen her in was a very small part in "The Haunting". Played the sister with the smart ass kid, of the gal who co-starred in the 1999 remake of Shirley Jacksons "Haunting of Hill House".

Goldberg74 06-25-03 06:28 PM

I rank the Candyman series right up there with the Darkman series... the originals were pretty good, but the more sequels they made, the lamer they got...
