Merci Pour le Chocolat (Nightcap)
Yet another great Isabelle Huppert performance - that makes it three I've seen this year - the other two being The Piano Teacher and 8 Women.
Beyond that, I can't think of any other good reasons to see Merci Pour le Chocolat. It's from Claude Chabrol (I personally am not too familiar with his work) but he's supposed to work in the 'mystery' genre. This particular film is definitely very Hitchcockian, complete with McGuffin, except there's really no suspense or action. Yet I found the film very compelling and waiting to see how things end up. Am I contradicting myself?
7/10

I liked Merci Pour le Chocolat, though it didn't really stick in my head for very long. Good music, nice affecting performances and a very smooth and languid pace kept my interest. Afterwards, not much to think about.
But of course, Huppert is the centerpiece and does not disappoint.

I liked it too. I thought it was very watchable, if a bit forgettable. I much preferred it over "The Piano Teacher" which I found to be quite good but very overrated.

I just got home from seeing it. I didn't like it much at all. The acting was fine, even great in some instances, but the story, the characters, the photography were all bad or uninteresting.
