I noticed that with FX's Summer of Sam airing also!
I watched bits of the film to see just how badly they'd be edited..only to find the violence lef intact.....orgy heavily cut down/out & the language edited also. Yet...when i took a look at Friday the 13th part's 2 & 3..+ Die Hard on the channels.....all the violence was hacked out!..even worse they went to commercial every 5minutes..which was annoying, that i didn't even bother watching them. Funniest thing was....they even cut out Jason getting axed in the head in part 3..yet every other channel leaves it in!...it's not even bloody or anything, you just see the ax hit him in the mask, head lurch's back from the impact & he continues reaching after Chris. Yet on FX..you see the ax raised about to come down, then thers a obvious skip & all of a sudden he has an ax in his head! Another dumb edit. When i first saw Kelly's Hero's on TBS..near the end Clint says "So why don't you turn this(bleep) around..." So I thought he said "f..ker" around....yet when i the film un-edited...all he said was "turd"! Speaking of which..i really need to get this on dvd as it looks horrible in P&S! I remember seeing Blazing Saddles on tv alot, but am not sure how they edited the "N" word,if they did...though did notice the 'beans' scene is completly silent!..yes folks..natural bodily functions are a no-no as well on tv! Not to mention the scene is un-funny since it does'nt make any sense anymore. They did the same thing to the scene in Dumb & Dumber...they either cut the diahrea scene entirely...or they leave it in..but edit out all the sound effects! Speaking of racial slurs....once i saw them dub over someones use of the N word to "You African-American!"...and the person didn't even sound like the actor, not to mention it paused slightly as he said this, since the words much longer than the N word! So yes...you can show a film about racisim..and completely change/lose the meaning/tone of the film by dubbing over all the 'offensive' words...when they are important to the charecter & getting the point across, what kind of person they are! Repo Man.....that has to many to mention. It sucks on tv,i have'nt bothered seeing that version in a few years. Probably the one edit i remember is...."Someone spill on the floor again?" instead of "Someone piss on the floor again?".....jeez..can't even say piss now?? Boy we are becoming to sensitive, lol. |
when tbs first showed dumb and dumber, the diahrea scene and the peeing in the botel scene were all in tact.
|
It's great how you can say "damn" on television now, but not "Goddamn". They censor out the "God".
There's some sweet irony in that. |
Ultimate
I just From Dusk till Dawn on ABC last night. Oh my god. There are like 40 second stretches of dialogue that are completely overdubbed by new actors. You can imagine what they did with Cheech's "pu*sy" monologue! I don't see why they'd bother spending the money on bringing such a movie to TV if they have to chop and re-edit so much of it. FTDT is constant swearing and the second half throws in gore & nudity to the mix. It's one of the least TV-friendly flicks out there.
|
I've seen Dumb and Dumber on TBS more that once. They took out 2 hilairious scenes. The scene when Lloyd and Harry get pulled over and the trooper well you know. Also the scene with the joke about the Shih Tzu and a Bulldog mating. These are the worst edits in my book.
Almost forgot to mention American Pie aired a month ago. The MILF guys say Mom i'd like to feel insted of well you know. I try not to watch movies in general on TV. Can't help it i guess.:( |
ROBOCOP
"Mother Crusher" instead of Mutha F***** Showgirls- Saw this on Vh-1 couple of days ago.....all the nudity was horribly covered up...might as well not show the film at all. |
the brodcast premier about 5 yrs ago of dumb and dumber had no edits (well, no gross out edits) but now all the good parts are taken out.
|
My favorite was always in the edit for Real Genius.
We just watched the DVD of this last night and I was reminded of what the television version says. When Val Kilmer propositions the girl at Hathaway's house (the daughter of one of the army guys) he says something like "If there is anything that I can do for you, or rather TO you, let me know." Unedited, she replies: "Can you hammer a six-inch spike through a board with your penis?" He says "Not right now." She says "A girl has to have her standards." The edit, she says "Can you hammer a six-inch spike through a board with your pinky?" Which makes the reply make absolutely NO sense :D |
The absolutely goofiest editing I've ever seen was for an airing of The Thing on network TV, I think CBS, about 10 years or so ago. The predictable stuff throughout the movie was edited but at the end, just after Kurt Russell's character finishes with the prehistoric looking incarnation of the creature, there's this bizarre added on sequence that was never part of the film where it shows one of the camps dogs walking around with Donald Moffitt (the actor who played Gary) doing a voice over similar to the ending of the original '50's version of the film, i.e. "Watch the skies!" and stuff like that. It was just plain weird and I've read John Carpenter was less than thrilled when he heard about it.
|
I heard about that tv ending of The Thing...but have never seen it!
The dvd has some brief added for tv scenes..but not that part..just a shot of the dog running off alone, looks back at the camp, with black smoke going up into the air or something like that. Another messed up tv cut i heard about was for the film Two Minute Warning. I have not seen the film, but have read about variuos reports that the original tv version cuts out over 30mn or more of the film, adding in a sub-plot that the sniper at the stadium was a DECOY for some jewel robber's or something! If they ever release a SE of that film on dvd,it would be interesting to see the 'tv basterdization' of the film, lol. Another edit for From Dusk Til Dawn....the Titty Twister is now called the Kitty Twister! I never bothered wathing all of that on tv as it's not worth it...i don't even know how they dub over Cheech's speech or just cut it out entirely? Dazed & Confused is also un-watchable on tv..they edit out huge chunks of dialogue("spit or swallow?") among all the drug references. Breakfast Club......."FORGET YOU DAD!!!!" durring whats his names tantrum about his family life. Some stations just bleep out all the 'bad' language,it's hard to tell what he's saying. Also TBS must still use a early edited for tv-version of The Longest Yard..the very begining with Burt & his girlfriend(or whoever she is)....has every other word bleeped out! I saw the same part recently on AMC..& it was not bleeped out...all she said was stuff like "You son of a bitch" & so on,which most stations leave in. The Blues Brother's is also horrible on tv. The scene with the nun.."I guess you're really up sh^t creek" & the subsequence cussing as they get smacked more by her "You F^^king penguin!" is just so bleeped out it's unfunny! Another Scarface edit i never got was when Al & his friend are by the pool side durring his "This city is like one giant turkey waiting to be plucked"(tv edit) line.....when his friend tries to pick up women & they make a bet that he knows the perfect way that has women just flocking to you. On tv he walks over to the lady...Al tells some kid to watch this idiot & laugh at him,he thinks he's all that ect...show the guy kneel down by the lady talking to her, then all of a sudden she gets offended and walks off or something, while Al & the kid laugh at him. Uncut...he goes over to her,and sticks his tongue in & out rapidly & she gets offended & walks of(have'nt seen it in along time). Weird part is...i'ved seen people do that on other tv shows & movies..and they leave it in!..yet in Scarface they have to cut it out, thus ruining the humor of the scene! |
Re: Cheech's redubbed speech... All the p-words are replaced by kitty, and at the end, he leans down to the camera with his crazy pervert leer and delivers the unforgettable line, "if you can find cheaper kitty anywhere, FORGET IT." What the...?

i prefer if they bleep out the words insted of trying pathetic redubbs. like on the french connection on upn one night.
|
I prefer them just leaving the film intact & uncensored!!! :)
Another funny edit since it makes the film even worse is the guilty pleasure that is Stephen King's Maximum Overdrive. Most stations completely cut out the brief pre-credit sequence with King cameo, but i did see it left in once..but they cut out the bank sign showing the time, temptature & date then saying "F^ck You f^ck you" & it goes directly to the King cameo...only they don't show the automatic teller saying "you are a ass-hole(repeats aton of times)" & then King deliver's his immortal line "This machine just called me an ass-hole!" It was changed to "this machine just called me an airhead!"...makes no sense at all & is just unfunny! The language throughout the film is butchured as well as the violence & anything remotely worthwhile the film has that makes it a laugh riot:) Also check out Jason Goes To Hell on tv. Theres one scene that is not even in the workprint, but has showed up on tv. The prank phone call scene...only it's heavily edited for language of course with all the swearing & other 'bad' words changed to "forget me?..FORGET you!" & so on. I also checked out the infamous tent sequence. While the scene is heavily censored in the R version,it's even worse on tv......all the moaning is toned down or deleted all together, shots from inside the tent are zoomed in & apear to be paused so you don't see(any nudity &) the lady moving up & down!...the shadow of the couple screwing from outside the tent is slowed down & is hardly hinted at since it moves by so fast to them getting killed which is butchered also. You see the killer pick up the pole, here some garbled screams & it cuts to the end of the scene with the killer walking away all in a micro second! Also the very begining with one of the coroner's saying he'd like to take a big mango sized crap on Jasons face is completely hacked out as well as his 'swearing' a Jason's corpse before that now dubbed over with "hey you screw face!". His death scene while off-screen in both the R & Unrated versions(it's only hinted at with sound effects) is cut out from tv as well! Also who can forget Christain Slater's line at the very begining of True Romance... "Hey i'm no *** or anything, but if i had to f^ck a guy, i mean had to as if my life depended on it,i'd f^ck Elvis" Girl "I'd f^ck Elvis, well not now,but when he was alive(laughs) CS " So we'd both f^ck Elvis, nice to meet someone with common interests...." On tv...its "I'm no freak or anything, but if i had to do a guy,i mean had to as if my life depended on it..i'd freak Elvis" girl "I'd freak Elvis" CS "So we'd both freak Elvis, nice to meet someone with common interests..(cuts to credits!) |
Great Outdoors. Don't remember the exact lines but they had the same high pitched man dub over the same word (ass) for every actor. It was as bad, if not worse, than the Mr. Black joke at camp Krusty.
"They can just blow it out their KAZOOS!"-John Candy "Who can blow it out their KAZOOS?"-kids "No one's blowing anything out of their KAZOOS!"-mother |
One I really liked is an edit for Predator. When Billy (the Indian guy) cuts an X in his chest with his knife. They show him cutting the first part of the X and then cut away before they show the second :) The first cut was fine, but not the second :D

Originally posted by candyrocket786 Showgirls- Saw this on Vh-1 couple of days ago.....all the nudity was horribly covered up...might as well not show the film at all. Saw this as well over the 4th weekend on VH1, as well. This film should never be shown on broadcast television. The computerized bras were laughable. I loved when Nomi becomes the lead and is coming up from the volcano and the strapless bra follows her as she dances... On the other hand, I hope this comes on again. I need a good laugh. |
around 80 percent of jay's lines in mallrats were dubbed by another actor (or it sounded like it) on the usa network tv version?
|
My all time favorite, from Weird Science:
"She kicked me in the guts." "She kicked you in the GUTS?!?" |
Oh I absolutely hate watching movies that are editied. I think that should be able to say whatever they want. One my favorite examples is the Shawshank Redemption, which is on cable quite often. There is a scene near the beginning where a prisoner is SAVAGELY BEATEN TO DEATH. They fully show this beating. The next line is "Take that tub of **** down to the infirmery," they edit the word ****. What kind of twisted society do we live in where people are offended by hearing a swear word or seeing boobies, but it's fine to graphically show murder???
|
Don't forget when Tim Robbins is attacked & beaten by that gang of guys & he talks about what will happen if he bites their **** off since they try forcing him to give oral or something.
Thats completely edited out on tv & makes no sense at all..you see his lips move, but it's in unaudible whispers & every other word is cut out..& then the guys get scared off & leave him alone! Been awhile since i saw it..but i remember it being edited something like that on TNT> |
Also not sure if it's been mentioned.........
But i saw a TV version of Predator on FOX years ago.....& it had all the death scenes re-filmed! Such as that one guy who's head explodes..on the version i saw...it shows him kicking & screaming as he's being dragged off sceen! It was quite jarring when i finnaly saw the film unedited awhile later when my brother rented it & saw how gruesome it was,+ all the swearing & so on completely non-existent in that FOX version! I have'nt seen that version since...but a weird thing is ,all cable tv versions(TNT ect show a severely censored version of the theatrical cut..yet AMC edited out the swearing..yet left all the gore intact! What gives?? |
A friend of mine said that the beginning of "Four Weddings and A Funeral" the UK prints had Hugh Grant saying "bugger" instead of "f**k" is this true? And how is this done for the television edit of the film, anyone seen it, or is the whole opening scene deleted?
|
I am just waiting to see the edited for TV version of Jay and Silent Bob Strike Back!
|
Anyone remember these?:
The Dirty Harry film "Sudden Impact" had one of the most ridiculous edits I had ever seen. Aside from the fact that there was no mention that Sondra Locke was shooting men (ahem) below the waist - the ending was completely changed! Spoiler:
I was also curious if anyone remembers when the networks continued to show Bugs Bunny cartoons about 10-15 years ago when political correctness first started getting out of hand? They actually began editing out all the violence! Bugs and Daffy would argue over whether it was rabbit season or duck season, you would see a disconcerting break in the continuity, then smoke would be coming out of Daffy's beak and you had no idea why! (I'm so glad these are now shown in their original format on the Cartoon Network so I can enjoy them properly with my four-year-old daughter, just like my Dad did with me when I was four.) |
