I purposely missed The Shawshank Redemption when it was in the theaters, and when it came out on video, I was forced to watch it. But after seeing it it quickly became my favorite movie.

It isn't out yet, but I scored free passes to Like Mike not long ago. I was sure that the movie would be terrible, but it easily ranks among the best sports films of all time. Plenty there for kids and adults alike, and a lot of real innovative sequences. The acting is great all around, and the humor is spot-on. Simply great!

Fight Club (Thought it was just about people beating each other up)

American Beauty (Looked like nothing more then a girl movie to me)

Fishing With John (Not exactly a "movie", but how could a show about fishing be at all entertaining)

Final Fantasy:TSW was waaaaayyy better than I thought it was gonna be based on everybody griping about how torturously bad the story was. I ended up loving it.

I thought everyone meant bad for a cartoon, not bad for an enduring literary classic upon which multiple religions would be based.

Boy, I thought I was going to hate Legally Blonde, but I thought it was charming and refreshing.

All the lousy trailers hyping the poor CGI made me think Spider-Man was going to be a wash-out too, but Raimi pulled it off (poor CGI notwithstanding) and gave me one of my best moviegoing experiences in recent years.

When Jurassic Park first came out, i thought it was a stupid Dino movie. Wasn't interested in it at all. My wife made me go and i refused to pay full price, so we went on a matinee.

Damn, was i wrong...

Moulin Rouge too. i thought it was a chick flick, but i got hooked...

"Billy Elliot" - the oldest movie-formula in the book is saved by heartbreaking performances and a completely kick-ass soundtrack

rollerball 2002, oh wait never mind, wrong thread, that movie really did suck.

on a serious note, godzilla 1998 (i think) is easily not as bad as people are saying.

Most recently, Donnie Darko... The description on the back of the box did it no justice at all... Great flick.

Not to mention foul-mouthed kids! It's like a live-action "South Park"!

When I saw the Fight Club trailer before Phantom Menace, I practically laughed my ass off. Especially with the soap at the end. Long story short, saw it opening night, went back the next night, and it's now one of my faves.

Here are my choices:

Donnie Darko (I seriously thought this film was going to be about a killer rabbit that kills people but I thought wrong, it turned out to be a great film)
The Mothman Prophecies (As much as I hate Richard Gere, this movie turned out fantastic, the story was really good and I was actually impressed by Gere's performance in this movie)
Scary movie 2 (I actually thought the 2nd one was going to suck, that's why I didn't see it in theater but when I saw it on rental, I laughed my ass off throughout the entire movie)
