The John C Reilly appreciation thread!

http://i.imdb.com/Photos/Ss/0177971/1

He played a pr0n star in Boogie Nights, an L.A. cop in Magnolia and a commercial fisherman in The Perfect Storm. HE is John C Reilly. Like Luis Guzmán, he is a great yet under-rated and unappreciated actor.

I hereby dedicate this thread to John C Reilly.

Ahhh, beat me too it. ;)

I've grown to love this guy. Some of my favorite performances from him include movies like Magnolia, Boogie Nights (Reid Rothchild  ), The Perfect Storm, For Love of the Game, The Thin Red Line and The River Wild.

ever since Chest and Brock graced the silver screen, i knew John C. was destined to be a huge star... his turns in Hard Eight, River Wild, Never Been Kissed and so on, have all been great. He can really elevate the material and I hope he gets many more gigs in the future...

although i think his role in magnolia is my favourite

I agree, I think he is a great actor. It's a bit strange though that his weight changes in every film he's in ;)

Me too. These PTA stables are all good.

Michael T Hudson 02-14-02 03:41 PM

Let us not forget Days of Thunder. I like Don Cheadle a whole lot as well. They are both great actors.

Reed: You know, people tell me I kind of look like Han Solo.

Dirk: Really ?

filmguy 02-16-02 12:07 AM

I'm at a lost of words today. So I will just say he's great and that he's one of my favs.

NavinJohnson 02-17-02 12:11 AM

I will always remember him as Jim Kurring in Magnolia. http://www.bassharp.com/photo45.JPG http://a552.g.akamai.net/f/552/606/1...img/reilly.jpg http://www.canoe.ca/PeopleImagesR/reilly_johnc_160.jpg http://image.guardian.co.uk/sys-imag.../10/reilly.jpg http://www5.airnet.ne.jp/ashiato/POL...%20OF%20J.JPEG
Fave quote- that epigram from “Magnolia”: “We may be through with the past, but the past ain’t through with us.”

He and Tom Hanks both put it on and shed it like nobody's business.

I very much hope JCR stays friends with P.T. Anderson. If so, I would think he's sure of having several more good roles to play through his career. Anderson seems to be the sort of director who leans on his acting "company", ala the Coens and John Carpenter, among others. The two roles he's played in Anderson films are arguably his best thus far.

He was great in Magnolia, but I think his best film is Hard Eight.

Two roles? You need to run out and make a blind buy of Hard Eight.

I always love the total absurdity of a guy with his build saying that he can bench 300 (or whatever amount it is), while Mark Wahlberg, who is shorter but whose arms are twice as thick, say he can do like 200.

jackepstein 02-11-03 11:56 AM

Heh. I met him at a Tenacious D concert a few years back (it was either the Bowery Ballroom or Irving Plaza).

Anyways, the show was over and he was just standing off to the side wearing a brown trenchcoat with the collar pulled up, and an Indiana Jones type hat.

Being a HUGE fan of Boogie Nights, my sister pointed him out to me and I immediately walked over to him. I shook his hand and asked him how much does he really squat. John laughed. I laughed. Everyone around us laughed and applauded me on my smart alecky quip. Actually, that didn't happen. He just chuckled and gave me a smile when I asked him that question.

He was awesome in Magnolia. I was surprised to see him in The Hours (just didn't know about it), but he was good as usual.

Yeah, he was great in this film.

While somebody already beat me to the Han Solo reference, I also liked his rant in Boogie Nights at the recording studio: "This 'MP,' 'YP,' you're talking over my head!" I probably just mangled the quote, but fans of the film should know what I'm talking about.

And don't forget his penetrating (pun intended) insights about the social impact of his art: "Violence.....is something that plagues us. As a society." :)

His part in Anger Management (which I saw in the trailer) looks to be a laugh riot.

Hopefully he has a pretty decent amount of screen time, but if not: that is okay.

He is awesome.

Don't forget about Casualties of War, his first film.

costanza187 02-12-03 01:43 PM

John C Reilly is awesome...I try to see every movie he is in!
