No. No, it isn't.

Just got back from a midnight showing, though, and I must say it's a damn_fine film. Definitely one of the best of the year, and I can't wait to see it again tomorrow. Go PJ!

Gee, that poll isn't biased or anything...

How about a "not a chance in hell" choice?

While I haven't seen it, I do look forward to it, but I seriously doubt that it's the greatest film ever made.

Gimmie a break with this pole...

Although LOTR is very good it is no way the greatest film ever made.

Sorry, there's no such thing as the greatest movie ever made, and there probably never will be. I can't wait to see this myself, but let's get a grip on reality, shall we?

Obviously you haven't seen Seven Samurai.

Of course there's a "greatest film ever made." The recepient of that title is up to you to subjectively discern, but the fact remains that everyone has their pick.

the poll seems a little stupid. its either the greatest movie ever or I have to see it again to decide if it is the greatest movie ever?

Can we have some sort of decent Poll?

I loved the movie, but I wouldn't say its the greatest movie ever and everything else is crap compared to it.

I've just seen it.

It's simply a bad movie.

This poll makes me laugh.

I mean, really. Lord of the Rings? Sure, it seems to be a fine film from what people are saying (I'll be seeing it tomorrow) but I offer the following for consideration:

Grand Illusion
Vertigo
Citizen Kane
Seven Samurai
Taxi Driver
The Rules of the Game
The 400 Blows

The list goes on and on. I doubt that LOTR would break into the top ten of any serious fan of the cinema.

You haven't seen it. And it's actually a very good movie. Try again.

At this thread/poll...

Greatest movie ever made, no... Movie of the year, no... Entertaining, well-made, leaves you interested enough to want to see the remaining two films and make you think about buying the eventual DVD, yes... yes it is....

Seven Samurai is possibly one of the most overrated movies of all time. At least people should pick a decent Kurosawa film like Ikiru or Rashomon!

I just saw the film, and I liked it.

But I certainly don't think much of this poll.

I mean, there isn't a twikoff option, and if ANY poll needs that, this one does.

My point exactly -- there IS no "greatest film ever made" absolute, because there's no way in hell everybody on Earth will ever agree on one film. There IS certainly "what I think is the greatest film ever made" but that's different according to each and every person. See, we agree!

But more importantly, when do I get to see LOTR? Argh! Weekend, come hither!

If all three are as great as this first film was then it stands a chance at being ONE of the greatest trilogys ever made.
