Here's a few to add that I own:

R2 Germany PAL:
Super Mario Bros. (widescreen, box says 4:3)
The Wizard (Joy Stick Heroes) (fullscreen)

both of these are 5.1 and only in German. No english audio or subtitles. No extras. Both are about 5 minutes shorter than the USA VHS copies.

R2 Japan NTSC:
Pok閙on- The First Movie (Pocket Monsters: "Mewtwo Strikes Back" & "Pikachu's Summer Vacation")
Pok閙on The Movie 2000 (Pocket Monsters: ''Revelation-Lugia'' & ''The Pikachu Exploration Party")
Pok閙on The Movie 3 (Pocket Monsters: Spell of the Unkown Tower (Kesshoto no Teio) / Pichu and Pikachu)

All 3 of these are bilingual editions, including the original Japanese audio, unlike the US versions. Also, they are in vista widescreen format, while the US versions are fullscreen. The first two movies also have a little bit that was cut from the US releases. *English subtitles are only available with English audio tracks. You must return to the menu to change subtitle or audio options. When a Japanese-language audio track is selected, English subtitles are not available. (Available options: Japanese audio track + Japanese subtitles, Japanese audio track+ no subtitles, English audio track + English subtitles, English audio track + no subtitles) The menus are all in Japanese, but easy to figure out.

Pocket Monsters: Celebi Toki o Koeta Sougu (Pok閙on: Celebi a Timeless Encounter) (not availiable in the US) (widescreen, no english)

R2 UK PAL:
Cleopatra 2525 (TV, First Season) (Volumes 1 and 2, 13 half-hour episodes)

The German stuff I got from www.amazon.de , the Japanese from www.cdjapan.co.jp , and the Cleopatra I just ordered yesterday, along with the complete RoboCop: Prime Directives miniseries and volume 1 of Mortal Kombat Conquest from www.bensonsworld.co.uk I'm still waiting to recieve them, but I'm almost positive the UK stuff is completly in English.

Creator R2 - Widescreen (Yes!)

The Hollywood DVD edition (England, R2) appears to be OAR (1.85:1). I say this because the AR is not listed on the cover, but having played the dvd that's what it looks like. The colors are a bit washed out but the picture is pretty sharp.

2 More FRANCE exclusive releases.

2 More additions:
More
La Valle'e (The Valley) (in 16:9)

Both are FRANCE Region 2 PAL releases with the original mono soundtracks and a 5.1 Dolby Digital remastered soundtrack.

Permanent French subtitles. No English subtitle/dub option. Much more English dialogue in More than in La Valle'e.

Throne Of Blood (Akira Kurosawa) - R2 UK
This BFI release has burnt-in English subtitles, and no extra's except a trailer for Seven Samurai.

King Kong (Cooper & Schoedsack) - R2 France
Unlike the UK and German versions, this release has some extra's, including the French, short cut of the movie (in French only). The movie itself is English (mono) with removable French subtitles.

The Magnificent Ambersons (Orson Welles) - R2 France
The title of this title in France is La Splendeur des Amberson. Contains a 50 minutes Welles audio interview by Peter Bogdanovich. Other extra's are French only. Nice collector's packaging too.

Bringing Up Baby (Howard Hawks) - R2 France
Title in France: L'Impossible Monsieur B閎. Don't have this (yet), but is from the same collector's series as Ambersons.

L'Appartement (Gilles Mimouni) - R2 France
This one is lost in the mail, hopefully the replacement copy will arrive soon . I ordered this from France, because the British release is apparently inferior: This release is 16:9 enhanced and contains a DTS soundtrack, two features the UK release doesn't have.
With optional English subtitles, though the (short) featurette is apparently French only (but isn't on the UK release anyway).

Now, as you are looking for:
Films with DVDs in proper aspect ratios in other regions, but not in the US.
then why are
Babe - R2 UK and
Babe: Pig in the City - R2 UK
not yet on the list?
Both are bare bones releases, but at least in the correct 1.85:1 aspect ratio (16:9 enhanced)

I found these other editions of The Mission (1986):

Germany (Deutsch Dolby Digital 5.1, DTS 5.1; 1.66:1, 2.35:1, no English dub/subs present?)

"Nederlands" (Engels Dolby Digital 5.1, Engels Dolby Surround 2.0; 1.33:1 PAL)

Cynthia: Thanks for the great list of non R1 DVDs. I have ordered previously some offbeat titles from AMAZONs. Including some CARRY ONs which I see are now coming here! But does anyone know why such films as HELLO DOLLY (beware a cut print. listed at 139 when it runs 145), ALL THAT JAZZ, THE ROSE, THE AFRICAN QUEEN are NOT released in the USA yet? Copyrights????
ALso, some of those Hong Kong titles are merely transfers from lasers.
Thanks again.

Summer of Fear (aka Stranger in Our House) is available in Region 2 (France).

It's a pretty decent made-for-TV flick from 1978, starring Linda Blair and directed by Wes Craven: http://us.imdb.com/Title?0078330

now if only i can find a french site i can navigate thru to order it.

edited to add:
found one, but it looks like this is only up for pre-order, but it doesn't list a street date.
also, the price is pretty steep (almost $30 + whatever shipping charges)

I just purchased a region free player. This is the first time visiting this forum and I need some help, advise and patience.
Is there some way to find a movie I am interested in purchasing, without using search engines for each county in each region? I guess what I am looking for is something like DVDPricesearch for regions other that R1. Prefereable just one search engine.
If that is not available what are the best in each region. I did try several of the search forums listed, but this elderly grandmother just got lost.

Thanks in advance

Randy
