SUVs are not evil. The people who demonize SUVs need to get their heads out of their asses for once and get over it.
Exactly! You've summed up the SUV debate with the perfect metaphor. The "I'm gonna do as I please no matter how crass, offensive or self centered" is truly becoming an indefensible position.

Cigarettes should not be banned. People bitch about how we live in America (most of us), the land of the free. Well, people are free to smoke - deal with it.
And I'm free to kick your ass if I'm coughing on your smoke. Seriously, I don't think anyone has suggested banning cigarettes altogether.
If we ban ciggerettes due to potential health hazrds, should cars, tall buildings, and sharp object be banned as well?
Cars, buildings and "sharp objects" are absolute necessities of society. I think you'd have a hard time arguing the same for cigarettes.

Alec Baldwin is funny. He has great comedic timing and energy. I wish he would do more comedies. For proof, see anything he has ever done on SNL and Outside Providence.
Agreed. He gets a lot of flack for his political stances and being very vocal about them, but I think he's a very versatile actor and can be really funny, as his SNL appearances prove.

Another unpopular opinion of mine:

Leonardo DiCaprio doesn't get a fraction the respect he deserves. People hate on him because he's a hollywood pretty-boy and was in the everybody-loves-to-hate Titanic. But he is a very gifted, and he deserves a hell of a lot of repsect for not selling out after his enormous popularity from Titanic. Did we see him in cell-phone commercials, Michael Bay movies and other sell-out jobs? No. He took roles in more obscure movies, a Woody Allen movie, the two terrific movies he's in that are out now, and keeps a relatively low public profile all the while. I can't fathom why some people hate him so much, aside from jealousy.

So, a person who bashes SUVs is somehow better than someone who drives one?

I'm commenting here cause I agreed with much of what she had to say

But I'd like to see it happen survivor style where the losers get eaten.

In fact, 99% of TV sucks. I never watch TV.

Reading books is good.

Living in a small town is awesome.

I can be an animal lover and still eat meat.

I'm averaging 30 minutes a day-usually that's the Simpsons rerun. New books I've read have been far better.

For all the fun that can be had living in a big city, living in a small town is far better in the long run.

Beer is tasty, tofu is yucky
Yep

Smoking should never be illegal. Saying it should be illegal because non smokers are forced to deal with the stench is like saying it should be illegal for people to skip a day without showering every once in a while because it would force random people to smell their BO, or making it illegal to brush less than twice a day and use mouthwash, lest an innocent bystander gets a whiff of stinky breath. If I want to smoke in my house or in my car, that's my right, and in my unpopular opinion, it is elitist to try and deny me of that right. I say this merely because of the attitude I see in most non-smokers who try and push the issue... for some reason they always seem to have an attitude of superiority.
The only one I disagree on. If you're by yourself, do what you want. If others are present, and you plan on messing up my lungs, I'd better like the smell.

Pot should be legalized, and I don't smoke it. It should be legalized because our taxes are not only paying to support these "criminals" in prison who get caught with pot or selling it, but also go to paying the salaries of the police officers who are after them. IMO, the whole thing is a complete waste of time for the little amount of harm that pot can do. Alcohol has the potential of doing just as much damage... can you imagine how much money would be wasted on enforcement if they tried to make alcohol illegal again?

Agreed (and I don't smoke either), but one other thing. Legalization advocates, stop trying to claim that you want hemp and marajuana legalized because they just so happen to be the perfect plant. Maybe hemp could replace cotton, paper and wood, but so what. We HAVE paper, cotton and wood. They work great and don't need replacing. Say that you or that someone that you know wants to get high, and and it's already the #1 cash crop in a number of states so why not get some tax $$$ out of it instead of wasting money trying to stop it.

Porn is not harmless
I'd also say that casual sex comes with a barbed hook too. From a guy, very unpopular. I think both tend to make sex more of a means to an end. A fun means to a very fun end, but ultimately not harmless.

I'd make sterilization mandatory for people who have had multiple abortions

I believe in the death penalty - far too many tax dollars are wasted on "life in prison"
Agreed. Accidents happen, but if you are simply unwilling to take any responsibility-you shouldn't breed.

Already agreed on the second earlier.

homosexuality and bisexuality CAN (meaning NOT ALWAYS) be created by situations or society

ergo keyboards suck
Until I thought of ergonomical keyboards, I though you had a weird logical arument here.

People who immigrate to the United States should learn to speak the language within a minimum period of time, at least enough to get by. This should be tested, as a condition of being allowed to live here. I have seen far too many people who don't speak English either just plain being too proud, thinking they are too old to learn a new language, or even being upset at ME because I don't speak Spanish or Korean or whatever it is. And don't give me PC crap about this either, because I grew up in a foreign country and my whole family learned the language because we have COMMON SENSE.
I hate this too. If you learn later in life, you'll have an accent, no big deal. But not being able to understand the language is just stupid, unless you have no plans on interacting with anyone who dosen't speak your language. Not likely. And dangerous too-how well are you able to understand road signs.

Christians aren't always rude, self-centered, hypocritical, or holier-than-thou
Very true-but just like the fanatics of any religon, they are the loudest and make the good ones seem worse by association.

Good post Betho-even if you don't agree with my agreements. :0

I can't stand Phish and the Grateful Dead.

There is a difference between disliking something and it sucking. I can dislike a band and still not say they suck.

Girls in there early 20s are the most dangerous thing on earth.

Girls in there early 20s are also the hottest things on planet earth...oh wait that isn't an unpopular opinion.

Howard Stern is not a good DJ

Punk rock is very overrated, sure the emotion is there, but it would help to play an instrument

Hippies suck.

People who smoke dope all the time need to get a damn life.

People who smoke dope all the time and try to get other people to smoke with them really need to get a life.

God does not exist, and never existed, at least the human perception of it.

Christianity is evil

The Sega Dreamcast was the best system ever created.

The Dynamite Kid was the best wrestler ever.

The Doors are overated

Sammy Hagar Van Halen is better than David Lee Roth Van Halen

If a goalie leaves the crease he is fair game, you should be able to check him.

Keyboard in rock is a good thing.

Geddy Lee has a good voice.

Laserdisc is not dead...well completely dead

Fighting in hockey is a good thing

I agree on the US lingual issue. I think it is important, culturally and intellectually, to learn a second language, but to force it through conforming to the languages immigrants bring into the US is absurd. We have huge groups of people in this country who can't communicate with one another, and that is just bad. Immigrants who come into this country should have to learn the established language of this country - English.

People posting opinions that are based more on emotions than solid and sound logical reasoning hardly strike nerves with me. If anything, they elicit sympathy and pity from me moreso than ire.

But this is hardly the thread for an SUV debate. However, if you'd like to join in on one of the currently existing ones (there are about 50 of them, they shouldn't be difficult to find) and deposit your dime-a-dozen, beaten-to-death opinions about the inherent evilness of the SUV, go right ahead.

Punk rock was great 20 years ago. Now it's kids playing the same way that their fathers did. If you want to be rebellious, go invent a new genre.

Hot New Country is the same thing as '70s Top Forty. It was boring the first time.

Orangerory made the best post in the thread.

Those hot rod Japanese cars are pretty cool. Much better than those all show no go lowriders. Last night I was following some on my bike, and they went from 60 to 120 in about eight seconds. Very cool.

When you think about it, if it weren't for Hitler, then we would not have our wonderful interstate system. I thank Hitler every time I get on the highway.

There is nothing Hot nor New about Hot New Country...it is the most polished prepackaged, single serving crap you will find in music, it is even worse than the stuff played on MTV.

Why did you stop at Hot and New? There's nothing Country about Hot New Country, either. I think Hot New Country is more Hot and New than Country, actually.

It reminds me of Coffee Talk. "I'll give you a topic... Hot New Country is neither hot, nor new, nor country. Discuss!"

I knew this was coming I don't think I've ever been able to get through a movie of his, whether it is the fact that most of his movies are chick flicks, or maybe that many of his female leads also irritate the crap outta me, I dont know. Anyways...

Compare High Grant's single role as an uptight Englishman to Vin Diesel's stockbroker/businessman role in Boiler Room vs his role as a mass murderer in Pitch Black vs. secret agent man in XXX. Diesel hasn't been around as long, so he hasn't really had an opportunity to "prove himself" yet, perhaps.

Plus, I don't really care about his ACTING ability. he's hot, that's it. Hugh grant is annoying. They could have the same exact acting ability, and I'd still hate Hugh and be infatuated with Vin. and such is my unpopular opinion

Oh, and dave matthews sucks. I went to a DMB concert once and left early. What a waste of money.

I actually think Leonardo DiCaprio is an excellent actor (watch him in What's Eating Gilbert Grape), I just find him annoying. Same with Alec Baldwin, athough between the two I think Leo is a better actor.

If I am around non-smokers and want to smoke, I ask permission and would not be offended if they preferred me not to. Ask Cool Kitten.

I agree, casual sex is not harmless, but most people end up realizing it and I wouldn't consider it an unpopular opinion. However, I don't think most people realize the harm porn can do. I'm not saying I think it should be banned, cuz I watch it muyself, but I think people need to realize that it does have negative effects, to the single person or the couple.

Seriously? If you have the right to kick someone's ass because they smoke then they certainly have a right to smoke. It IS a free country. People need to stop preaching about wanting everything legalized because this is a "free country" but then bitch about wanting smoking outlawed.

Just don't breath it in. Go to all the thousands of restaurants that are smoke free. But we smokers should be able to enjoy a cigarette after work at the local bar. You know people will be smoking there, so choose not to go. Don't go and then preach about it.

Now, if you're walking down the street and someone points there face at you and blows smoke right onto you, then hell yeah, kick their ass. That's just plain rude.

So just because something is the status quo it means that it should be immune to change? You may have not explicitly said just that but that's the general gist of your argument. Do you realize that if this attitude was the dominant one that we'd still have slaves?

BTW, "free country" does not mean "do as you please, regardless of the consequences others will face".

I'm thinking there are lots of uncomfortable consequences a smoker could face if he/she had their ass kicked for the mere reason of smoking.
