Mr. Music:

Do you have a hi-res version of the "Spider-Man version 7" (red spine) you posted earlier? Also, with the correct catalog number (09661).

Thanks.

jhlurie 11-10-02 12:49 AM

I had an idea to "fix" the horrible E.T. 2-disk packaging. As flimsy as it is, the REAL problem is that it won't stay closed.

Rather than try and replace the case, what I want to try to do is make a slipcover for it.

Step 1: Measure the dimensions of the existing piece of crap as exactly as possible. Pressing it together, but not too tightly.

Step 2: Next, I'll fudge a few extra millimeters to allow the creation of "fold points", and also leave some room to overlap on the final fold a bit and create a flap to glue.

Step 3: Then I'll take some thin cardboard or some thick stock paper and fold to the dimensions I figured out in step 2.

Step 4: Next, I'll scan the outside artwork (unless someone here already HAS a good high-res scan) and then print some nice cover art based on the original box-art on photo paper--measured to fit on the front and side panels of the slipcover I create. If I wind up using thick paper for Step 3 instead of cardboard I may print directly on it instead.

Has anyone tried anything like this yet? The side-benefit is that this leaves the original packaging completely intact.

BizRodian 11-10-02 03:05 AM

jhlurie, that's actually a good idea. That case would have been nice if it did have a slip case over it. If you do make one, I suggest that you use the finger touching poster for the front slip cover. Then when you open you have a the moon one.

Hey thanks dude.. Actually, I was talking about someone to make a real box out of my art :)

But it's cool how u did a cover with it, maybe the back should be all black too. That'll waste some **** ink.

I do have it. And just to make sure, it is this one correct?

It is 3.5 MB in size.

Did you want me to email it to you, if you can accept email that large.

Or if others want it as well, I will host it on my site, replacing the giftset version.

Yeah, I was gonna make it all black, but like you said, it would be a river of black ink on there.

Mr. Music,

That's the one. Very cool cover, and I like the use of the original credit block on the back.

No problem on email [email protected]

Also, are you the guy who did the ET cover using the original "bicycle/moon" art"? I have the low-res that was posted here, but would prefer a high-res scan for printing (standard width for double Amaray case).

I did not do the ET covers, but have 4 different versions that we're posted here, 3 of which have the bicycle/moon art on the back. All at 600 DPI - 8 - 13 MB.

If you have the original name of it I can match it up.

Spider-Man cover coming your way

Robert George 11-10-02 10:36 AM

This is the one I'm talking about...

http://www.obisreviews.com/obipics/etcasewrap02.jpg

I'm assuming this is sized for the slim double Amaray (if I can ever find any).

Also, I can probably host a few of these things without my webmaster having a big problem. Maybe a dozen or so. Let me know if there is any interest.

I didn't have that one, but I did find it and resized to proper specs at 300 dpi - I am emailing it to you now. Let me know if it is what you wanted.

Robert George 11-10-02 11:13 AM

Mr. Music, you da man!

:D

eau 11-10-02 12:47 PM

Hey Music,

While this version has the correct catalog number, it got the same old UPC for the rental market :)

The retail UPC is 043396096615, the ISBN # is 0-7678-9872-9.

Ok, it has been fixed. Thanks :)

All covers are available with or without the UPC - just ask.

Robert George 11-10-02 01:14 PM

Music, I hate to ask so soon, but I'd like to have the version 7 Spider-Man without the UPC...

:D

Which one would you like? I changed the features list to the one I created so it should be easier to read. :)

Robert George 11-10-02 02:18 PM

Hmmm, both look great, but I think I prefer the first one. I like being able to see more of the background.

Thanks. Again, if you want me to host some of these, build a web page with thumbnails and whatever text and descriptions you want and send it to me. I can upload it to my site along with the high rez covers.

Mind if I request that via e-mail, as well?
Thanks!

I'll send it. I'll use up some of my bandwidth...;)

Robert George 11-10-02 02:43 PM

Randy810 11-10-02 02:49 PM

Yes, Please

Robert George 11-10-02 02:54 PM

I tried to send the ET cover but it seems Mindspring will not let you receive a file that large.

EvlAsh 11-10-02 04:15 PM

Sorry guys, I thought I had put up the 300 dpi version of the E.T. cover, but I guess I messed up. Anyway, if you guys can wait until Tues. or Wed., I'll try to put up the hi-rez version from work.

Flyerman85 11-10-02 04:42 PM

I had a thought on the front cover but don't know if it is possible some one could take the title and have its letters be spelled out with webs

JoeyOhhhh 11-10-02 05:09 PM

I have a request for a Vault Disney template. Can anyone help.

Robert George 11-10-02 06:10 PM

Randy and Geoff (and anyone else):

I threw together a web page for you to download the ET cover, as well as any of the three Spider-Man covers Mr. Music sent me.

I'll leave it up tonight, or as long as my ISP doesn't cry "uncle" ;).

Pretty much completed now, I'm going to finish the insert and zip it up tonight.

Mountain Biker 11-10-02 07:06 PM

Looks great Bio! Glad to see someone do a Gremlins cover using the original poster art.

BizRodian 11-10-02 08:29 PM

Well, it was hard. I found no real good quality pictures of the original poster art. This one I found on some french cover... luckily they still call it Gremlins ;) I had to almost double the size of the "Gremlins" title, as it was really tiny on the original.

Thing is, I don't really LIKE the original poster art... but it's the best poster out there. Better then the Gremlins 2 Gizmo and Stripe's shadow... and better then the Gremlin bursting through the original poster too...

The back I redid completly... using pictures from the original disc's back cover. I think it looks pretty nice anyways.. the only thing I'm not too sure on is the Special Edition banner... but I tried a lot of different things, and that looked best...

I might do Gremlins 2 sometime, but I can't think of too many ways I can improve that one.

New Fifth Element Custom

Based upon the image from several threads ago, I created a new cover with a custom back to go along with the other three that I had made. There are a couple things I still need to tweek on it, and as always, I welcome comments.

Greek, will it be available for download after it's complete? I missed out on the previous covers, which were awesome too!

Keep up the good work.
