Sebastian:
You NEED to do a Memento LE case!!
And do you have a job making DVD covers for the studios yet? You should :)

DVDude! 06-22-02 12:16 AM

Issue #1: What do you guys use to print covers? I'm not made of money, but I need a new printer. I've been looking at inexpensive Lexmark inkjets and was wondering if one would be sufficient. They all claim "photo quality," but I'm not exactly sold.

Issue #2: What kind of paper would you recommend? Is regular paper okay? How about "bright white" HP paper? Or should one use high quality glossy photo paper?

Thanks!

Londo 06-22-02 01:42 AM

Well, as far as printers.. I just bought a Canon S520 and it's great.. I can 'lie' to it an tell it to print on 'legal' paper and it will fit a standard case cover on standard letter paper.

Nope, I don't have a job like that, but I would love to have a job like this some day :D :D

Lexmark isn't bad, but if I recall right they really make the money with the ink cardriges wich are really expensive. So if you plan to print a lot of dvd covers you might wan't to look out for a printer that has cheaper ink cardridges preferably one for each color...

I would recommend to use high quality matte photo paper wich delivers printouts nearly indistinguishable from originals...

DVDude! 06-24-02 11:35 PM

Thanks Londo. I'll check out the Canon S520.

Thanks Sebastian. The Lexmark I was looking at was $70 or so, including two full cartridges. I doubt I'll print many covers, but I'll definitely be printing some of yours. Do you think the Lexmark will be sufficient?

BizRodian 06-24-02 11:36 PM

There were some really really really nice looking posters on the Hannibal DVD. Of course, they're a little too low res I suppose to use...

And a lot of people here don't think it's a great movie like I do... :(

If you're not planning to print more then may 15-20 covers I would say the Lexmark should be sufficient. I don't know how much covers the lexmark can print with a single set of ink cartridges, so I can only assume that it will be around the same amount as my epson photo 820 , that can print 22 covers with a single set of ink... The only real tip I can give you is not to invest in annything with more then 1400dpi because you want see a diffrence between 1440 and 2880dpi...

Hey I love this movie! But doing a custom cover with one of the artworks from the dvd will be pretty much impossible since these alternative artworks were never released...

But if I find a little spare time I will do a cover for my code 4 dvd set of Hanibal... :D

BizRodian 06-26-02 02:05 AM

Yes, a real shame. I mean, I can take pictures of them off the DVD, but they'd just be too low res.

Cosmic Bus 06-26-02 03:58 PM

Sorry to bump this up from the second page, but I just purchased a used copy of Hannibal today, and need to second (or is it third?) the request for a cover scan, and possibly an insert, too.

The cover on mine is damaged along the top, and the insert was folded in half. >_<

Yocke 06-26-02 04:46 PM

Hey Rogue588, where can I download the full res version of your They Live cover? It looks sweet!

Newbie question

I am new around here, but wanted to say that you guys are really doing a great job designing these covers.

I also was wondering about something. I have a Hewlett Packard 932c printer. I have been printing my covers on glossy photo paper. The problem and question is this: when I first print them they look amazing, sharp crisp, perfectly legible. But after a few days, they seem to bleed some and the text becomes a little blurry. And the small text becomes hard to read. Has anyone else had a similar problem? If so what have you done to fix the problem? I was using expensive HP Glossy Photo Paper. Thanks for the help.

I am also working on some new covers also. So I will let you know when I get them ready.

tygloalex 07-01-02 12:39 AM

I don't venture much out of the other forum, but I found this thread and I'd like to say thank you to all the hard workers here, especially you Sebastian.

BizRodian 07-02-02 10:58 PM

If one of our cover makers wants me to take any pictures from the Hannibal alternate posters in that DVD's extras section, then feel free to email me at [email protected] and I'll snap one.

But they just wont be high resolution, that's all. But they may be useful to some one.

ShabbyBlue 07-03-02 12:38 AM

Here's a request:

How about a 2-disc deluxe edition of The Exorcist with the 25th anniversary DVD as disc 1 and the "Version You've Never Seen" as disc 2? Both are crummy snapper cases anyway, but I thought it would be cool to combine them into a 2-disc deluxe edition since both have different extras (which is why I own both DVDs). Can somebody make a custom cover, kind of like what someone did with The Matrix and The Matrix Revisisted with that cool 2-disc custom cover that combines both.

Rammsteinfan 07-03-02 01:39 AM

I did a Exorcist one the other night. It didnt turn out too bad... I also was sick of having both snappers on the shelf. I only have 1 snapper disc left on my shelf (Final Destination)... anyone have a good one for that film!?

Pearl Harbor Vista Series Packaging

Is anybody else unimpressed?

I'm thinking a new cover, maybe accomodating the people with the original release too, so a 6-discer.

Anybody got any thoughts?

Or hi-res images?

Brett 07-03-02 05:25 AM

can someone please post a scan of House Arrest snapper on dvdcoverart.com?

Thanks

I threw together one for a QUAD DVD holder last night, I cant believe they put 4 discs in cardboard sleeves! Argh, I dont like it when they do that... The rest of the packaging is nice but darn them for cardboard sleeves.

I sent 4 covers to DVDcoverart.com just now, maybe they will post them. I did the 2 disc Exorcist cover, Blair Witch 2 Disc, Pearl Harbor Vista, and They Live... If anyone wants to see them or wants them please email me and I will get them to you asap!

I need a better scan of Enter the Dragon than what is on dvdcoverart.com

blkdragon6 07-05-02 03:17 PM

If anyone could do this for me, I need a scan of the follow covers.

Man on the Moon
The Talented Mr. Ripley
Being John Malkovich

I bought these three dvds at Wherehous used and they decided it would be a great idea to put the stickers under the plastic cover and on the dvd cover art instead. Not being able to take off the sticker without tearing apart the cover, what a fantastic idea!

Req: Clint Eastwood COllection background

Does anybody have a Clint Eastwood collection background template?

Rammsteinfan 07-06-02 01:25 AM

I just made a Final Destination CUSTOM cover using the Original Poster art that I submitted to dvdcoverart.com. Hopefully it will get posted for all of you looking for a custom cover for FD...

DVDCoverart has a cover like you mention above, accomodates both the original 2 disc release and the new 4 disc director's cut. Time to order some more cases from inetdvd.com :D

Hi guys,
I'm looking for someone who can make me 3 custom covers for Gerry Anderson's Thunderbirds. The covers would be for a 4-disc case. E-mail me for more information. My thanks in advance.

Disc-Flipper 07-07-02 04:05 PM

Would somebody scan these covers for me ?
- "The People Under the Stairs" (region 2)
- "The Name of the Rose"

It appears dvdbrazil.com only has Spanish-language covers available.

Mountain Biker 07-07-02 04:55 PM

Would it be possible for someone to put together a cover for My Bloody Valentine using the original theatrical poster? Granted, the new cover isn't as bad as some of the other upcoming 'new' covers Paramount has slapped together, but for nostalgic reasons, I'd love to have the original poster with the close-up of the crazed miner. Many thanks in advance. :)

Pearl Harbor Vintage Style Postcards

Could someone possibly scan the 4 vintage style postcards that come in the Pearl Harbor Vista Series? I'd like to make a 6-disc cover using them but my scanner has gone the way of the not working. Or at least point me in the direction where I could find them?

I may make one, but not until September when the actual disc comes out, so I can use elements from it. If you want one sooner, I can send scans of the original VHS artwork and you or somebody else can assemble one. I'm busy creating other covers at the moment.

slop101 07-10-02 12:19 PM

This sucks.

Every website is out of stock / back-ordered on the only thing I need: slim-double amaray cases and a clear single amaray case.

None of them say when they'll get more in stock, but they do say that those items are typically out of stock. - then why doesn't the manufacturer make more - each week there are more people that need this stuff, but they never bump up production to match demand.

Rammsteinfan 07-10-02 01:59 PM

I know! I need some slim double amaray cases to replace 2 broken ones I have. ARGH! Why do they do this to us?!

JJE-187 07-10-02 02:59 PM

Why don't you guys try c4component. the have clear cases & they have a double slim that is IMO better than the amaray.
Jesse E.

slop101 07-10-02 04:30 PM

I'm not familiar with these "double slims" you mention. Please explain what they are like.

Are people using the 2-disc cases for the VCDs they're burning?

Thanks Disc-Flipper!

Being that I'm pretty lousy at assembling covers of my own, I'll hold out till you have the time, or maybe someone else can take you up on your offer and post one before then. :)

JJE-187 07-10-02 09:03 PM

Disc-Flipper, I use the "slim doubles" for most of the vcds i burn with my Terapin recorder, but i use the white AlphaPAK versions from inetdvd for my vcds and the black cases from c4 for my DVDs. I store my vcds in white cases and my DVDs in black cases.

slop101, A "slim double" is a case the size of a single amaray/alpha that holds 2 disc instead of 1 and really help save space for all of the 2-Disc SE that are being released (ID4, Snow White, Dogma, etc.)
