Thanks, and I nearly thought I was the only one that was unhappy wis the original cover artwork :)

@Londo fixed the typo, also added a little black border to make it easier to cut out...

WHOO HOO. eBay here i come!! :)

Seriously Sebastian, thanks for the cover -- it is cool. There's only one thing wrong with it...not enough JESSICA ALBA! Especially the scene in the auto shop. [you know which one i'm talking about...]

@JJ-187 I have CTHD already on my list, just a matter of time bevore I will have one ready :)

www.dvdcoverart.com has been down for a couple of days now...MDX, do you know when it will be back up again?

mdX 06-08-02 08:14 PM

had to switch hosting companies, as I was using more bandwidth than they though I should (~10gb/month)

the site will be back up as soon as the DNS changes take place. I'm in the process of uploading everything to the new server now.

The Hidden...

it's me again... just finished a custom cover for New Lines THE HIDDEN dvd... here's a little preview:

http://www.myprivateparts.net/download/The%20Hidden.jpg

What do you guys think? Better then New Lines cover or not?

In case you like it, you can get the full-sized version from my homepage ...

DVDude! 06-09-02 12:00 PM

Sebastian: Personally, the spine should have some color other than green, IMO. I wasn't too thrilled with the front cover of New Line's version; I think yours is better. The back of New Line's was pretty decent, showing the menu screen too. I think their version edges yours simply for that reason (although I prefer your color scheme.

BTW, your Hellraiser cover is great! Also, although I'm not a fan of Idle Hands, that cover is leaps and bounds above the crap that the studio designed. Well done!

(And www.dvdcoverart.com is still not up for me...)

Mountain Biker 06-09-02 12:15 PM

Looks pretty darn good Sebastian. It's definitely better than NL cover. The only thing I would recommend adjusting is the green picture tone of Kyle McLaughlin on the spine and maybe change the tagline on the front cover to either white or black lettering, for it's a little difficult to make out. Nice job

Thanks for the comments. I think IŽll leave the spine like it is, another color would IMHO break the color schemeof the whole cover. The only think I donÄt quit understand is why you like it when they have a picture of the menu on the cover... it's imho pretty useless...

Thanks :D But I hope you like my Hellbound cover too ;)

Thanks! :D I could put back the standard color for Kyles face, but I found it kinda stands out to much rather then blending in... and for the tagline... its much better readable when printed out... I had it in white first, but it was too much of an eye catcher and diverted too much attention from the main motive... but I guess thats just a normal matter of taste :D

JJE-187 06-09-02 10:34 PM

Another great cover Sebastian. are you gonna try A.I. using the original poster? how about Hollow Man? or Kiss Of The Dragon? or The One? there are so many bad covers out there that i'm sure i'm forgetting alot.
Jesse E.

DVDude! 06-10-02 01:49 AM

Sebastian: As for the menu screen on the back, call me weird. :) From a marketing standpoint, the menu makes sense. These alternative covers are supposed to replace the standard studio covers, so they are for fans of the movies (or haters of snappers). When I designed a cover for an issue of Inside DVD with the old black & white Little Shop of Horrors, I included a pic of the original Inside DVD coverslip (had Freddy Krueger on it) as a...marketing gimmick, I guess.

Hellbound? Cover's pretty good and works well, but I *really* like the Hellraiser one. :)

As for Idle Hands, based on your cover, I'm thinking about renting the flick. I saw it in the theater and was pretty disappointed. However, maybe I should give it another chance. After all, if I like it, I'll buy it and then I can use your amazing cover. (I'm serious too. Call me weird.)

DVDude! 06-10-02 01:49 AM

Oh, and www.dvdcoverart.com is finally back up for me. Woohoo!

Roykirk 06-10-02 02:02 AM

Sebastian,

I don't know if anyone else is having this problem, but I keep getting a CRC error when I try to extract the JPEG from your The Hidden RAR file. Am I doing something incorrectly? I'm using WinAce 2.11 which has had no problems with other RAR files in the past.

THe problem might be, that I updated to winrar 3.0 wich might cause you these problems. Try unpacking it with winrar 3.0 and you should have no problems...

I only own Hollow Man ond never thought of making a custom cover for it, but now that you mention it, the cover really isn't good looking compared to the poster art... but I have Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon on top of my list now, so you will see a cover for this dvd next...

Kiss of the Dragon and A.I. are both good canidates for custom covers but I like to own the dvds I make covers for, and since IŽam totally out of any spare money to spend on dvds this might take a pretty long while :(

:D Well since for me the movie always comes first, you probably won't ever see a screenshot of the dvd menu on any of my covers... :D

Won't call you wierd, but don't blame me if you don't like the movie despite the new cover ;) ;) ;)

JoeyOhhhh 06-10-02 03:09 PM

Hey RMan360

Do you have any promotional flyers of the Sopranos? Looking for any and all seasons.

Rogue588 06-10-02 06:15 PM

OK guys.

Try not to laugh. But, for the past hour or so, i've been trying to create a cover for Willy Wonka. Wait. Create isn't the right word. I scanned the cover and i'm trying to assemble it following mdX's advice on www.dvdcoverart.com.

Now...

I have two problems. One i actually solved [but i'd love to know any easier way to do it. or maybe i'm doing something wrong]. And the other is just plain baffling me.

Lemme start with the hard one.

I'm basically all done with the cover but i'm stuck at the point where mdX says "Now, down convert the image to 300dpi*, and save. You are now ready to print your new cover." I really can't figure out how to down convert the file. Right now it's 19.9m. But, most covers i've seen are around 3-5m. What am i doing wrong?

The other problem is pasting the front/back cover onto a separate document. For example. mdX says to single out the front/back cover. resize it, then paste it onto your template. Well, i don't have a template for a DVD cover so i just create a document with the insert measurements. Now when i paste any particular item into the document/template, it's way too big and doesn't fit.

I know it's probably me, but i'm at wits end about the down converting.

Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.

Oh, i suppose this would help: I'm using Adobe PhotoShop. :)

BrianPM 06-10-02 11:05 PM

The colors, the colors

Rogue588,

Now that DVDCoverArt.com is back up you can get some nice templates from the help page. Note that these are at 300DPI, so you need to downconvert first before you paste your pieces in.

To down convert, this is how I do it in Photoshop Elements, YMMV since I know Elements has a simplified interface versus Photoshop.

- Image -> Resize -> Image Size
- Change the resolution box to 300 DPI. Leave everything else in the dialog alone. The pixel count should adjust automatically.

Sometimes it seems like I've had to Select All before this will work, maybe in it's a bug in Elements.

Everyone,

I can't seem to get this color/contrast/brightness correction thing right. I put together a cover for Lost in Space, but my silvers all ended up very, very blue. Then I decided to try Cannonball Run - it's much simpler, with a white background and not much art on the cover. No matter what adjustments I make the maroon title on the front is more of a muddy red, and I can't seem to get Burt's face out of the shadows on the back cover.

All of the covers that I've printed out from DVDCoverArt.com seem to have accurate colors, so I know I'm doing something wrong. Maybe my Umax Astra 600 scanner is just a piece of junk.

A professional graphic artist I'm not. Any of you pros have some tips for a rookie? :) As mentioned above, I'm using Photoshop Elements.

- Brian

www.DVDcoverart.com has a link to a site that prints them at cost. They have a variety of covers, not much, but you might wanna check it out.

Cover requests

I'm looking for scans of "Lost Horizon," "Arsenic and Old Lace," and "It Happened One Night." If you've got them, please email them to me. Thanks

Does anyone have a cover for the companion of the DUNE miniseries that SCIFI channel had calledSecrets of 'Frank Herbert's Dune ?
Anyone have Total Movie #8 cover also?

Thanks in advance

Rogue588 06-12-02 09:39 PM

Thanks for the help BrianPm. I finally got it.

Right now, i'm just scanning snappers. One of these days i'll get enough nerve [& time] to try and create my own like Sebastian. :)

These are the first two i've done:

http://members.aol.com/rogue588/willywonka.jpg

One of the best movies ever. And one of my favorites. The re-release cover IMO sucks. I guess that was WB's revenge at being "forced" to release a w i d e s c r e e n version. :)

http://members.aol.com/rogue588/rgc.jpg

Do i really have to say anything about the original cover to this? God, it's amazing that Columbia pays people for crap like that. The new front cover is from the front of the insert.

I've been trying to send 'em to mdX [so he can put 'em up at www.dvdcoverart.com/], but i've been having problems with it. Hopefully, it'll be straightened out soon.

dtsmovieguy 06-13-02 10:15 AM

Guys, I need cover art for the movie "They Live". Anybody have it available?

Sebastian 06-13-02 05:43 PM

Heya,

just working on a Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon cover and thought you might want to get a peak of it prior to its release... so here it is... :D

PS: Positive feedback is always welcome ;) ;)

That a sweet cover Sebastian. Why not just use the regular or teaser poster already available? http://www.postersfast.com/asp/searc...rouching+Tiger
I think (Regular D) would work great with your cover. or maybe you could use (Regular C) which is my favorite

DVDude! 06-13-02 09:15 PM

Sebastian: Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon... WOW! The front cover image is a little hard to make out in terms of detail, but the design is great. Well done.

Pretty easy answere, first of I really like the artwork IŽam using right now and second I couldn't find any high quality sources for the poster artworks you mentioned... the landscape one really works pretty well, but without a high res scan of it preferably of a source without any text in it, you will have to live with the one IŽam using right now...
