I'm not sure. I bought it as region free and I'm able to run all regions (except RCE Disks).

Could you please provide me with any manual switching mechanizm used in sony players and I will try it out.

I have the sony portable fx1 and it won't play RCE either ...

Try the following:

1. Player: STANDBY
2. Push "1"
3. push "enter"
4. turn on the player

Now you're on Region 1. In case you insert the RCE disk now, it'll run. You can use the same sequence as above to pre-select other regions (thugh it has practical use only with R1, due to RCE). This trick works on DVP-S335, chipreplaced R2 & I could play "Hollow Man" w/o even seeing the map :)
