Depends on what movies you like, but I wonder if your wife is willing to spend $50 plus per title...

Preferably not that much unless it comes with some awesome collectable. It has been while since I was over there but yes I remember those crazy prices. I had hoped it had stabilized a bit by now as BR was newish when I was there.

The ones that are affordable are Hollywood titles released by the major Hollywood studios. Japanese releases are incredibly overpriced as usual.
Night Of The Living Dead (1968) Blu-ray from Happinet is a good buy.
It has the 2 audio commentaries from the Elite DVD, the "One From The Fire" 90 minute documentary, and trailers. It can be bought in the 2 for 3000 yen areas in most stores.

Obviously I am holding off on episode 27 as I still have to see episodes 17-26.
Good advice on the NOTLD, anymore like this? Unreleased or maybe bare bones in the states with a good complement of extras in Japan?

Bookoff is great! I hit the LA one every so often and pick up tons of imports for great prices. Don't know how cheap they'd be at the Japan stores.

Definitely that one. There are a number of mainstream Hollywood movies with slightly better transfers and audio quality released solely in Japan. I believe the Last Samurai BD over there has a lossless soundtrack while the American one doesn't. And most of the best versions of the Studio Ghibli movies on BD can only be found in Japan. Though obviously they don't contain the English dub.
Many of the Ghibli BDs contain the English dub track plus English subtitles, but not for the extras.

I'm going to have to check out the Pearlridge one. I think I went to the one in Ala Moana (inside the Shirokiya store) and came away unimpressed with the selection and prices.

Tempting but I don't think I liked it enough to upgrade my DVD for that much.
