Other sources for English language region 4 DVD's?

For months I have been looking for an out-of-print Australian (region 4) DVD at online stores and sale sites in Australia and New Zealand. Having come up completely empty, I started wondering if any stores in other region 4 countries (Mexico, Central America, South America, etc.) might specialize in importing Australian DVD's that are otherwise unavailable locally. Has anybody been in this situation before and found such a merchant? Thanks for any advice!

Well, South American region 4 is NTSC, and I don't see why many stores down south would carry incompatible Australian PAL titles, as they also don't include Spanish or Portuguese options for many titles.

Places like www.yesasia.com or www.cdwow.com (remember them?) carry some Australian titles. What are you looking for?

I'd forgotten about that. Rats. I would like to think that most players today can handle the PAL <-> NTSC conversion, but if a collector in Brazil really wants an unusual title, I suppose they might just get a region free player and then buy the region 1 release.

The main film I'm looking for is this: http://www.fbo.com.au/movie.asp?ID=10081 . It's apparently the only widescreen version available anywhere, and was readily available until 2008-ish. (I've also been tempted to email Criterion, to see if it fits their criteria for a re-release.) I am usually pretty good at tracking stuff down, and it's starting to bug me that I have yet to find even a beaten-up, used copy.

I just found the talking heads movie, TRUE STORIES (REGION 4) on Ebay.australia. I'm surprised that you haven't looked here first. There's a seller that's selling the version you want for $14.95 au. So go to Ebay.com.au and you should find it.

Actually, EBay Australia has been my main source for the film. I'd been searching the Movies category for True Stories, assuming that anything with this title would bubble to the top of the very eclectic search results list. Apparently not, due to EBay's fuzzy logic search algorithm. I just searched for

True Stories -story
or
"True Stories"

and that did the job. Now I wonder how many copies I may have missed? :( Anyway, thanks!

If I ever run across it, I'll get it. USPS shipping <i>to</i> Australia is only $15, so hopefully the reverse is true.
