A movie where most of the lenght of it is about soldiers or freedom fighters during or just after an armed conflict. For example I do not consider that Taxi Driver, Forrest Gump or A Very Long Engagement are war movies. The Good German is on the other hand is a war movie.
It even got an Oscar: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0102426/ |

Since Klimov is also dead does that make it from "the late wife of the late director"? Here's my review of The Ascent. |
Re: Foreign War Movies
^Well, let's just say, at the time he made Come and See, he was not yet late, but she was, having died in a car crash in 1979:).

Re: Foreign War Movies
^Gotcha! The late director's even later wife. ;)

Re: Foreign War Movies
I haven't seen it in over a decade, but I remember Brynych's Transport from Paradise being quite good. Lacking a little in passion perhaps, but well made, and it invoked all the right imagery surrounding the concentration camps.

Re: Foreign War Movies
cheers for recommending The Ascent, looks great. On order.

Re: Foreign War Movies
My wife introduced me to the British TV drama The Jewel And The Crown, might looks like a chick soap at first but this 1984 mini series is a must. Set during the Indian independence war we see the British Empire, probably the most repressive regime ever, falling apart.
