2009 CD-WOW - views, reviews, discussion thread

Well, although I had not made a CDWow purchase in probably over a year, in their defense I did just purchase Antonioni's Red Desert and received a shipment notification within 24 hours. Granted, I haven't received it yet but I will say that I was quite surprised to get a shipping notice in a timely manner and that I could get the Red Desert DVD (Grrrr...why must the BD be Region B?) for 11.99 GBP - not bad.

Oh and for placing an order the last week of December, I received a 2 GBP off voucher that expires January 14. Does anybody want it? I guess if you do, just say so and I can PM it to you or just PM me....

I'd like to if you please. Sending you a PM. Been wanting a voucher to get Spooks Season 6. Thanks!

AmonTwin 01-03-09 08:59 PM

I just PM'd the code to you....

I don't know how they expect to stay in business asking $43.99 for Oliver Stone's W. and $64.99 for the 3-disc Wall-E...and those aren't even the Blu-Rays.

It would be a relief for the customers if they just closed down. No one I know ever order from them anymore. They“re the worst e-tailor around.

I've never had a problem. Ordered off them for years.

I ordered Little Mermaid last week for £5.99 and got a shipping confirmation, and the only time I didn't recieve something was when the post office lost it...

Granted they are not always on top of their game, but I wouldn't want to see them close. I have gotten some good deals there in the past. The good deals are fewer these days but I still don't want to lose them as an option. I do miss the days of getting cheap Masters of Cinema discs there though. The only time they did not come through with something I ordered was when a title I wanted went OOP. They refunded me no problem. Blu Ray discs I ordered recently were slow in arriving.

I remember in the beginning of 2008 they had several BFI titles for $14.99, but since then their prices have gone up and their selection has gone down, not to mention all of the issues people have had with delayed orders. Compared to the always reliable and reasonably priced Amazon UK, CD Wow is a total waste of time. They're not even on my radar anymore.

Now they send out the vouchers more than once per month, but I'm not really interested. In fact, there are fewer DVDs I want to buy. Not until I upgrade to Blu-ray.

That's funny, because I haven't received a voucher in months. I must have been bumped from the list.

BUMP

As far as being a useful source for R3 Hong Kong DVDs, maybe CD-WOW can once again be considered as an option. Granted the bargains aren't as great as before, but if you wait for one of the fairly regular $2 off sale promotions then you can still do quite okay on certain items.

Plus, now they've remedied one of my big complaints in that they seem to be indicating the stock status of the item. For example, some list as "in-stock and ships within 24 hours", and others indicate a "7-10 day availability". I gave it a shot and place an order during one of the recent $2-off sale promotions. I picked up the HK disc of LEGENDARY ASSASSIN for $11.99 and it shipped within a couple of days. That price beats what you can find at YesAsia, DDDHouse, DVDAsian, etc. Similarly, they had the 2-disc HK release of Tsui Hark's MISSING for $11.99 (sale-priced) and that also beats the competition. I'm going to try things out on a "7-10 day" item and see how that goes. Also, I'm going to keep an eye on pre-orders and see what happens upon release date...if the DVD becomes "in-stock and ready to ship" or if it goes to "7-10 availability". Generally speaking, if the price is right, waiting up to 10 days for shipment is fairly acceptable to me.

I was rather vocal in my complaints when things started to turn sour at CD-WOW, so fair is fair and I thought I'd speak up and credit them...at least as far as R3 Hong Kong stuff goes.

I mainly order cd's from them now, I got the deluxe editions of the Radiohead - The Bends and Ok Computer for $18 each. Hopefully, the dvd sales will get better in the future.

You have got to be kidding me!!!! They want $36.00 for 2-Disc Quantum of Solace. :jawdrop:

I bought it from Amazon for mere $10.00 shipping included.

Thanks, for the post. What a steal for this price. I ordered one for me and one for a friend of mine who wanted to get this but never found it for a good price.

I got a "Hey we want you back!" e-mail with a $4 voucher that I used on the Chinese Odyssey box set, it has shipped, so we'll see how long till it arrives. Man, the CDWow of old was a goldmine, I miss that place...

Still debating on In Bruges - $26 after the 2nd voucher. It looks to be the same release reviewed on Blu-Ray.com

just have to sift through a lot of pages.....

I'm sure their usual bullshit about items being "out of stock", then mysteriously re-appearing the next day at higher prices will ensue.

So far, so good.
