The 1980 puppet-cartoon series STAR FLEET is now available to buy at amazon.co.uk.

I don't remember watching the show when I was a kid or didn't even hear of it till today, but it seems familiar after watching clips of it on youtube. Does anyone remember if this show played in the USA in the 1980s?

Either way, it looks like a great show with continuity and depth, and I hear it's really dark with characters dying and such. It also looks very creative. I never liked Thunderbirds but this show looks better.

It's generally positive and the DVD quality is not surprising considering it's from 1980 and a bit obscure.
DVDtimes rates the dvd as:

Either way, I'm buying it, because I know that good cartoon series go out of print fast.

The dude on that site says, "The originals have been remastered, and the sound is absolutely incredible. It was a very odd feeling seeing it in full widescreen glory after so long."

I hope he's right about the video/audio quality, but this show is in full-screen, right? What widescreen is he talking about?

Well, according to that DVDtimes review, "... It’s all perfectly watchable and I should point out that they presented in their original 4:3 ratio, preserved in a window box." Plus, the sceen caps Mr. Thomas posted do look like they're 4:3 and not some cropped bastardization. Maybe his enthusiasm over the show finally getting released got the better of him? He has been maintaining the SF/XB site for almost a decade after all. i just hope he's not watching everything on his widescreen telly in the wrong AR ;).
It's regrettable that the original Japanese soundtrack isn't included on the set - i couldn't find any info on it's inclusion (in any of the reviews) at any rate.
