Sweden's big-budget ARN: THE KNIGHT TEMPLAR Thai PAL DVD is now available for $9.50 (including shipping).

The DVD states anamorphic, DD 5.1 English, and English subtitles, but I will confirm these specs once I receive it in the mail. I do know that part of the movie is spoken in various languages, so I will see how much is dubbed or not, and which languages are English subtitled or not. There is a Scandinavian DVD release of this film which states DD 5.1 English as well, but no English subtitles on that one.

It's available to buy here: http://www.ethaicd.com/show.php?pid=43574

Again, I'd be interested in your confirming the specs. once you get the DVD. I'm very much interested in seeing this one.

I got my ARN DVD today and watched it. Not bad, not great. Sort of entertaining. But this DVD is very interesting. When I originally heard about this movie, I researched this movie and found out that there were two movies made from these Arn trilogy books which were popular in Sweden. The first film was released in 2007, and this sequel was release August 2008:

1. I thought that it took two years for this film to get English subtitles. I was right and wrong - the THAI PAL DVD is some Hollywood, re-cut of the TWO FILMS merged into one!! That's right, two films shortened and merged into one film. I have read reviews of the two films and people say they are pretty mediocre films, so maybe this re-cut version merge of two films into one film may be good. I didn't feel confused from this cut version, but after realizing this was a re-cut after research, I now can see how they chopped and skipped around. But surprisingly, for a re-cut film like this, I thought they did a pretty good job of making one believe that it was one film and not two. So instead of some 4-hour epic (two films), they condensed it to a 2-hour shortened epic.

2. The Thai PAL DVD is of very good quality. Excellent anamorphic video and a very good DD 5.1 English/Swedish/Arabic. I know people had questions about the audio. And it is all the original audio. In this movie, depending on who's talking to who, characters speak Swedish, characters speak English, and characters speak Arabic. There are excellent English subtitles for everything. The only thing is that the English subtitles don't turn off when English is spoken. It's not a big deal because the majority of the film is Swedish.

3. So, I'm assuming there are going to be a bunch of cuts of this film:
a. Scandinavian and German DVD releases of the first film (which already exists)
b. Scandinavian DVD release of the second film (hasn't come out yet)
c. Thai DVD release short, re-cut version of the two films merged into one.

If people want the original two separate films on DVD, then there is no English-subtitle option yet because the Scandinavian/German DVD releases of this film do not have English subtitles.

I really don't know what to say. Eventhough I would have liked to see both original versions, my gut is telling me that this re-cut version is actually the better version!

Movie: 6.5 out of 10
DVD Video: 8.5 out of 10
DVD Audio: 9 ouf of 10
Extras: 0
