UK Government to increase duty-free import threshold from 18 to 105

Yes, from next month the threshold for things imported into the UK from outside the EU without a risk of being charged duty will increase to 105. The current threshold is 18. This will make it easier to buy Criterions without any worries. I read about it here:-

but will you not be charged VAT (sales tax) on them anyway? import duty generally applies to hardware rather than software. the last line seems to indicate that VAT will still be chargeable and still be at the 1991 level of 18, i think you'll have to wait a while for your criterions.

you're right, in a way, but DVDs have low duty rate and you'll still be charged VAT at 17.5% so no need to be excited unless you're buying cheap electronics (high duty rate) from outside the EU.
