Tale of Two Sisters on Blu

Just discovered while browsing play.com's site: Tale of Two Sisters is being released on Blu Ray, 23rd June in the UK.

One of my favourite ever ghost/horror films. Can't wait.

Do you know if this like most Blu's will work on the PS3? Or is it on of the few that are coded for certain regions.

There are more than a few BDs region encoded. Rather too many for my liking. Anyway, play.com doesn't say if this is Region 'B' (Europe) only. However, there is going to be a Region 'A' (USA/Japan) release but I can't find a release date.

ok thanks for the info. I thought it was like near 75% of the Blus werent region encoded but maybe I read some bad info.

That ratio might be right. It just seems that nearly all the Blu Ray discs I wanted were region encoded. I've since read that Tartan, that are distributing "Tale of Two Sisters", do not encode their discs. So non-European customers should be OK.

I don't think Tartan region codes their discs. The Seventh Seal and Oldboy from the UK are region free so I would assume their new releases like Tale of Two Sisters, Lady Vengeance, I'm a Cyborg, etc. would be region free also.

Entertainment in Video on the other hand region locks all of their releases.

This would be correct. None of their titles are region-locked and the slate of upcoming films won't be coded either.

I've read before that studios only release new releases region coded. (That is, studios that decide to region code their discs, like Sony and Disney.) As far as I know, all catalogue releases are region free. Of course, a lot of companies (like Warner) don't region code at all. :)

Actually FOX are the most ardent supporter of region-coding. All other studios are rather flexible about it.

edit: These are the rest of the BR upcoming titles -

28/04 – Paranoid Park
26/05 – I’m A Cyborg
23/06 – The Proposition; Sky Blue
28/07 – A Tale of Two Sisters
25/08 – Lady Vengeance

That's correct for the most part. The only studios that are region locking catalogue releases that I know of are Fox and some early Lionsgate releases in the U.S. Entertainment in Video locks all of their releases a la Fox in the U.K.
